Is synthetic oil in the RX-8 actually bad?
I understand it burns some oil but will the products in the syn cause an issue?

Thanks

If you use a QUALITY synthetic oil you will be fine..

I personally use what I sell ELF/Total engine oil...

I use this because it is made in Europe where they have higher standards then US spec oil and it is a PURE bastock 5 oil..

Ask the Syntec RX8 team how they like the syntec oil... your response will be NONE.. they dont even use it..

I WONT use royal Purple but I knowpeople that have and I ahev seen bad experiences and people who have not noticed anything benifiting..

ELF/Total has an engine oil made SPECIFICALLY for ue in the ROTARY engine..

I would rather run dino, and change it more often than play around with synthetics in the rotary.(bike)

To each their own.. I have used synthetics in BRAND NEW REBUILT engines from initial start up.. with NO PROBLEMS...

Oil will ALWAYS be a back and fourth thing but honestly Synthetic oils now adays are so much more advanced then they were even 5 years ago.. and as long as u are using an oil that has been tested in a rotary there is no reason why NOT to back it up..

Like I said the ELF/Total synthetic oil I sell for rotaries was DESIGNED and FORMULATED FOR ROTARY ENGINES.

lol this is the question of the century.
I personaly use dyno. I change the oil every 7 weeks. I drive my 8 a bunch.

Yeah as I said. OIL will always be a topic of scrutiny (sp). But I do think now that quality synthetics do protect better then Dino oil. however I still believe that a quality dino oil is still good to use.

I just RECENTLY switched to syns and I wont go back!!

I am curious if there is any documentation from Mazda on any of these synthetics? As far as I have ever seen, Mazda does not reccommend any synthetics in the rotary. (shrug)

As long as you use a true group 4 of 5 base stock it won't do one bit of harm.
