Can anyone tell me the difference between a P5 suspension and a Protege ES sedan?

Does the P5 have a different spring/shock/anti-roll bar set up than the ES?

My friend claims they are exactly the same. :bs:

the springs in the back might be different since the hatch is a little heavier than the trunk. i've never ridden in a regular sedan before, so i don't know. it's all logic speaking at this point. and roy, have you lowered your beast yet?

pretty sure the only difference is the strut tower bar... and the reason the P5 looks lower is because of the body styling(compare the wheel gaps). The sideskirts, front bumper and rear valance make a huge difference. but other than that its the same car.

yeah, measure the distance from the top of the wheel well of both cars to the ground. it should be the same. the more aggressive body kit on the p5 makes it look lower.

I drove the ES and then the P5 back-to-back when I bought my P5 in January. I just remember thinking the P5 was a little stiffer and sportier. Sorry I can't give you any technical details.

as for the p5 being heavier, it is only 100 pounds or so. most of which can be accounted for in the body kit.

When my dealer was looking to take in the ol' TA and locate a P5, they took the TA for "safe keeping", and gave me a loaner Protege Sedan for about three days. As I hadn't signed anything stating that I was responsible for it, I abused it. I have to say its handling is just as good as the P5's. In fact, I didn't feel any real difference at all!

yeah I dont think there is any way to really tell the difference between the two for sure. I know the struts are the same. But the P5 like everyone has said does have a front upper strut tower brace unlike the sedan... But since its a wagon it doesnt have any support over the rear struts. The sedan however, does have the unibody brace or whatnot which is basically a rear upper strut.... So, unless someone is a really really experienced driver I'm pretty sure they wont be able to tell much of a difference.

And yeah the body kit weighs a decent amount... The front Reinforcement bar weighs 32 pounds alone.

The suspension is exactly the same...Same springs same shocks between both the Protege 5 and the Sedan.

The Protege 5 has the strut tower bar. That is the only difference...

The ride height for both cars is exactly the same on MazdaUSA.com and the media site...

Minimum clearance is 5.5 inches.

The sedan is shorter (55.5 inches) than the Protege 5 (57.5 inches)...

Same suspension...
