Super pissed...

FYI - Going above 22 doesn't matter. That is not what blows a speaker. Distortion blows speakers.
Right around there on a kenwood deck will start inducing distortion.
Adding ANY bass or treble atenuation will add distortion.
Using those idiotic speaker size adjustments will add distortion.
Using the preset sound curves will add distortion.
Playing MP3s will add distortion.
Playing highly distorted recorded music will add distortion.
The gain on the amp being o highly set will add distortion.

I have mine set to half and I get none of what your saying. I'm not sure what your talking about. I use all the settings.

22 on most kenwood decks is where the distortion starts to come on, its not bad at that point but over 25 usualy is, this is model dependant.

Any settings like a different speaker size or preset sound curve, artificaily boost and cuts the audio signal which this unit can not do without adding distortion.

The compression on an MP3 disc adds distortion.

Play maxwell at 25, now slipknot. notice which has more distortion. The recording will tie into distortion levels.

These are things that add distortion.
Having your gain onthe amp to about 1/2 half is a good decision. To often people or even mazda had it at 3/4 or higher. Gain is a voltage setting from the audio singal telling the amp how much it can boost it. Setting it to high will cause the amp to attempt to boost the signal more then it possibly can and this yeilds a BAJESUS of distortion.

Ahh I see. Yes. I stay around 25 and it sounds good. Plus turning off the loundness helps.

EX-*******-ACTLY!

I love doing that (lol)

Seriously though, that is a great piece of advice, keep the damn loudness off! All it does is artificialy boost part of the signal the deck has no buisness messign with.NF level is the one thing that can be jacked without negative effect so long as the gain on the amp is properly set.

I haven't changed the stereo settings at all since I got my car in Feb. It's on the "rock" preset. I dont actually find the system that loud. My usual listening volume is 18-22 depending on the music and my mood. :) The quality of the sound is quite good though, no complaints there. I know there's better out there but I am not putting thousands of dollars into stereo gear.
