Sunroof Squeaks

I have a 2002 P5 with a factory installed sunroof. When the glass is closed the sunroof squeaks something terrible. I have tried putting silicon on it but it only seems to last for a day or so. I notice that Acura sells a "Squeak reduction Tape" specifically for sunroofs (applied between the rubber gasket and metal).

has anybody else experienced simliar problems? If so, whats the fix?

It's chassis flex and vibration that cause the squeak. Short of building a roll cage you might want to try and get somethings that stiffen the chassis. like GT-Spec ladder bars and braces.

I use a product that the Honda guys showed me when I was complaining about my sunroof squeaking. It is used on all rubber door/window/roof seals. It is a teflon based product that lasts for about a year depending on how often you wash your car. I will look up the name when I get home. It was a bit pricey($38 for 6oz tube) but it works really, really well. If you live anywhere near Cincinnati/Dayton Ohio let me know and I can save you the money and carparts store visit.

you're right, it's chassis flex. after i got my rear strut brace, there is noticeably less chassis flex. however, the less expensive option is to get some good lube and lube up the rubber edge of the moonroof. what kind of silicone are you using? the silicon lubricant spray? it doesn't work that well. try using a general lube grease or lithium grease that's safe for rubber.

I was using just the spray silicon. If I go to my local Canadian Tire Store and ask for "lithium grease" is that all I need to know?

Just use Slik Honey from a bicycle shop. Won't degrade the rubber and stays on forever. Short of that, Cinnamon grease, Judy Butter or Dow 33 works.

All will NOT degrade the rubber, which is very important. I use those in my Matrix (the paintball marker) and they work wonderfully. If they can work for such high use purposes, they'll be fine for your sunroof.
