I have recently purchased a audiovox satellite radio. I do not want to place it in the center of the dash. What about the left side of steering wheel? any thoughts?

i have seen them in front of gauge clusters, inside the little door below CD player. you could put it to the left of the steering wheel in the storage compartment if it will fit. or if it is the right size mount it to where the left air vent is. I have seen gauges in the air vent so i wouldnt see why you couldnt put a satelite radio there. or you could also put it below the ash tray and cigarett lighter. i dunno anywhere else right now but if i think of a good one ill let ya know

Inside the armrest because that thing is hideous. (help)

I saw one today that was sitting on a trucks a-pillar. I thought the truck had some kind of Engine mngmt, but then I saw the sirius doggie.

I saw someone with one in their steering wheel. From what I've heard it if you don't care about airbags its easy to install and mount. The one thing I can't figure out is, if you turn the wheel won't the wires rip, get messed up, tangled? As far as I know, none of the Siruis units are small enough to fit in a Protege vent, XM(their recievers are twice as small) yes, not Sirius.

you can buy a car mounting kit for a cell phone (it's a small metal bracket you can get at Verizon) and mount the satellite radio to the right of the cd player/center bezel...it looks alright, but I'd rather just get a compatible radio and buy the tuner so i wouldn't have a huge satellite receiver, but that's just my two cents

mines controled through my deck, but im trying to find a place to mount the controle box and tuner box.... :( for now they are in my glove box.....with the antenna wire running from the back of the car, along the drivers side (inside the head liner) down the a-piller, and then over to the glove box :)

im thinking of mounting both boxes to the back of the glovebox (on the outside) somehow so that way they are not taking up all my space in there (scratch)

I have XM and me and my dad mounted the receiver where the ash tray once was.... Used the ashtray bracket, and the adhesive that came with the unit and it looks great. Even cut the top piece of my ashtray and fastened it to the exposed bracket. Very factory-like. :)

ArchPro5:

It's a vehicle-specific mounting bracket. I think it costs around $25. It looks a lot better than just screwing it into the top of the dash. If you're looking at your center console, it would be a little up and to the right of the climate controls. I don't have any pics, sorry!

I have a friend that works at Circuit City and he's the one that told my boyfriend and I to get the bracket, b/c that's what they use. If you're trying to mount it the simplest, best looking way, I'd go with the bracket. It's easy to use and see from the drivers side, but the passenger can also see it.

so does the bracket attach to the side of center console, next to driver knee? or the passengers knee?

the bracket is mounted to the back of the satellite shuttle mount?

easy to assemble?

the bracket attaches behind the center console bezel...you take the bezel off and the bracket only fits a certain way....i'm trying to think of the best way to say it...the bracket is made to where it fits in behind the bezel...i wish i had pictures!!!

so, to answer your question, it's on the passenger's side of the center console, but it is angled to where the driver can easily see it.

i pmed you, btw.

Too bad my digital camera broke otherwise I'd go outside and take a picture of where my xm radio is sitting at. It's kinda ghetto but it sits on top of the ashtray. I have the XM Commander and it actually looks like it's ment to be there.

I am having issues with the placement of it though. it seems to get in the way of the shifter and the climate control.... same for you?

If you haven't installed it yet, I would recommend exchanging it for the XM Commander. I have that installed in my car, and the control unit is a lot smaller than the Audiovox units. It can also be hard-wired into the back of the head unit if you purchase a PIE interface adapter. Mine is connected that way with the Commander's RCA inputs, and the sound quality is as good as a CD.

My setup is just like Jspecs... and he's right -- it looks just like it was meant to be there. The black/silver colors of the controller match the P5 interior perfectly. The lights are blue, however. But, that doesn't bother me NEARLY as much as I thought it would.

With the Commander, you can also install the controller between the cupholders and the shift boot (or plate, depending on MTX or ATX).

Don't mount it to the left of the steering wheel, 'cause you'll have to lean over to get a good look at it (trust me -- I have a friend with an '03 LX, and he's constantly leaning over).

Well the left of the steering wheel I have deemed as a bad idea a couple of days ago. (won't fit right.... but visibilty would be fine though) However, I did get the smallest Sirius audiovox because...... it is silver and black with red light display, hopefully unobtrusive, and I am proud to say in a year Howard Stern. The dimensions are as follows: 4" x 3.5" x .75" (thickness). do you have pictures of placement/location? I have been exploring the install of a cellular bracket modified with minor fabrication to attach under bezel. I asked about direct line-in since I have no tape deck... they said it can'y be done. Is this true or is that bulls***?
