Subs with space

Basic question: Does anyone use their P5 to haul stuff? I travel a lot for bike races (usually 2-3 bikes in back when I fold the left rear seat), so I'm looking for ideas for sub setups that will still allow me to "use" the rear of the car.

Maybe it's unrealistic, but I'd like to use 2 10"s. Maybe a flatter, longer box to fill the trunk space evenly?

Most of the custom guys have crazy expensive ideas for fiberglass side molding, etc.

Lookup User Hihoslva as he built himself a custom box for 2 10" and still is able to use his hatch!

Trade in for a 2003.5 that has the sub in the spare tire well = ). It's only 100w though. It'd be cool if you could rig up a more powerful sub to fit in the same place.

ask 1st Mpo3 in NH to ppost pics of his setup..i remember he used virtually no space at all and still fit 2 subs in there

My Infinity Basslink has 2 10's, but one of them is passive :)
Here's a pic, lower right.

It'll definately rattle the spoiler!

A bit off topic, but the car I'm selling in favour of my new P5, had a fiberglassed spare tire well enclosure, that held two tens. I've got the link below, ignore the For Sale aspects and look at the pics. It raised the floor by 2", which left me with a slight step down into the car, but with our P5's, I noticed that with the seat folded down, it actually steps up from the trunk, so a box like this would make the trunk truly dead flat.

I'm planning on having the same setup built for the P5, using the same subs and amp. I only paid $750CAD for this setup, which with all the trim panels, superb fit and finish was a deal for sure.

I like this idea alot more than glassed into the sides.

Sub Box

You can always just put the amp under the seat and have a removable box.
Also I emailed you my old systems pics.

The spare tire well has a damn large hump in it to allow for some pump or something under the car so you only get a few inches saved with the tire well unless you specificly place the subs in the deep areas.
Well, I atleast assume the newer P5s have the same hump in the spare tire well that my car has.

The hump is still there, my Honda had the hump as well, and we just staggered the subs to avoid it. The box would take Type R's, which are fricking deep. I personally think the offset stagger ended up looking pretty good. I can always sell the Type S's and try and find a shallower sub, but I love the Alpines and it would have to take a great sub to displace them.

A box is definitely going to cramp your style. I have a single 12" in a box that is 16" x 16" X 16" and I can just fit my gear bag and my front wheel back there. I'm probably going to check into the performance of a good quality 8" in a sealed box. I'd like to cut the box size down to about .5 cubic feet. I set everything up like 1st MP3 mentioned, an amp under each of the front seats and the speaker wire for the sub just runs back to the hatch and terminates with banana plugs so I can just yank out the plug and pull the box in about 10 seconds. Why don't you use a roof rack? It would break my heart to pile muddy bikes inside the car. Here's a link to my rack page:
