Again, not intending to cross-post, but this is worth taking a look. When I bought the Mazda5 I looked at the Legacy but thought the 2nd row seat space and hinge doors were not toddler worth. Now, Subaru has come with this and it may make it to the US. Me likes it (evil). No sliding doors but at least the car is larger than a Legacy, and "could" seat up to seven...



Last year at the Tokyo Motor Show, Subaru presented the Exiga Concept, with an almost production ready look to it, therefore it comes as little surprise to see the confirmation of a production with an official teaser image and the launch of a mini site.
Billed as a 7-Seater Panoramic Touring, the new Exiga certainly appears to have kept the concept's overall styling and although we have no confirmation, we would expect to see the concepts 2.0-liter, horizontally-opposed, turbo-charged engine as one of the engine options in the production version.

There is still less than one month to go until the Exiga makes its official debut in Japan on June 17, but spy photographers have caught it nearly uncovered in the thick forests of Northern California. Subaru released a handful of Exiga teasers late last week, but none show the body details as well as these photos captured yesterday. Based on the Tokyo Motor Show Concept, the aggressively styled touring wagon will sport seven seats with a panoramic roof which extends all the way back to the C-pillar. The Exiga measures larger than the current Outback and rather close to that of the Tribeca. We expect to see the 2.0-liter turbocharged boxer engine as one of the engine options. Rumors are already spreading of an STi version but no evidence has surfaced, yet
 
Kinda seems like they'd have a hard time marketing this and the Legacy wagon side-by-side.
 
The legacy wagon is gone this year... so this would fill the void pretty well. I was looking at the new forester for the next ride but if this thing is coming... i'll probably be picking this one up...
 
for sure that car is gonna be a solid ride, but yeh, need to see what the gas mileage will be with the boxer engine
 
Outback, Forester, Tribeca... now just what Subaru always needed to complete their lineup. Another X-over. (yupnope)

It's just okay... I'll admire it for it's powerplant, nothing else.
 
I dunno, I have a 98 outback, and it's gas mileage is nothing to write home about. I average around 22mpg, where the 5 gets like 25mpg (with a bit more pep) under the same conditions.

So I'd assume that the new seven passenger wagon would get worse.

It's that damn 4wd tax.
 
My wife drives an 04 Forester 2.5X 5sp and it is a great car, for HER. I don't fit the darned thing. And it does get about 27-28 MPG with a K&N and my wifes heavy foot. We will be getting her one of the new ones in the next year or so, I think the 09 is a great looking evolution of the car, and the interior looks worlds better than the old car. And yes it would look fab as an STI, but I will never own a car that has to have 97 octane gas as long as it is selling for more than 4.50 a gallon.
 
I'd take it non-turbo with a stick. Please?

Love the Manual Tranny part, but what about the non-turbo, too much gas? (I do recall I read somewhere that your daily commute is looooooong, correct? (scratch))

Yeah, it's 200 miles a day, but I wouldn't use this as a commuter. I love my wrx, but I think I'd have just as much fun in the car if it were NA. I just want to save some money on the price of the car.
 
Yeah if they put that boxer 6 in there it'd be the best solution for those SUV owners that honestly need the seating, the AWD, some cargo, and not necessarily need to ever tow much of anything. I dig it, but yeah the gas mileage is a killer. My boss has a Forester 2.5x and it moves out, but low 20's in town mileage is a bummer. I am so appalled at the latest string of commercials bragging about anything from 25-33 hwy mileage... especailly the Cobalt... that lil thing should be 30city/40hwy.
 
I had a 5spd Forester Turbo and it only got 18MPG day to day driving and 22MPG on trips. Drank Premium too.

It was fun as hell, but not frugal enough to compete with the 5.
 
i have a 05 legacy gt and 07 mz5, the legacy is much more solid car than the mz5 but yea as mention before it's killer on gas and take premium only but i the power and fun factors make up for it expecially in winter. I bet the suby is much more expensive than the mz5 anyways they are no where near the same price range anyways. the mz5 is 20k cdn the new suby will very likely be over 40k
 
I had an 02 legacy GT, it was a sh*tbox. I will never own another subaru. It was underwarranty, and I still spent 7000 in repairs on it in 16 month of ownership as they charges you for labour for all warranty work. nice going suby. the boxer motor is sooooo underpowered without turbo, then with one the milage sucks. im much happier without it

sorry you had a bad experience, but the one time I brought mine in for warranty work it was all paid for, including a rental. You sure it wasn't a dealership thing?
