Sub wiring harness > new amp & sub?

I have a 2003.5 MP5, so it came with the factory spare tire sub. Is it possible to use the sub's wiring harness to wire an aftermarket amp and subs? How much power can it handle?

I tried searching the threads, and couldn't find anything on the harness.(scratch)

You can use it to get signal to the amplfier if that amp has a high level input or if you are using a LOC.

You will not be able to use the power and ground wires. You will need to run appropriatly sized power and ground cables for whatever amp you get.

Okay... I wired the amp and grounded it, and it turns on. I bought a line output converter (converts speaker wire to rca) and plugged the green/black + green and gray/black + gray to the converter's wires then plugged the RCA's into the amp. I don't get any sound from them. I used a voltage meter, and don't get power to the speakers. Help?

I have a question along the same lines as you are going. If I go the LOC direction, what about the remote turn wire ? I know you need to run new power and ground for the amp but where do you pull the remote turn on from ?

Okay, I found that part out myself. I ran my own power wire from the battery (fused of course) and grounded it on a bolt near the seat. There is a blue wire on the factory sub harness that will act as the remote wire. What does LOC stand for?

Not exactly. If the amp you are using has speaker level inputs you can wire the existing speaker wires into the speaker level inputs on the amp and get the signal from there. The LOC just converts the speaker wires to RCA cables.

I am really confused about how you wired this.
Can you break this down wire by wire.
What color wires were connected from the car and wire colors were connected from the LOC.

Also, did you splice or did you cut the factory wires?

Sub harness is not spliced. I'm going to try to find a way to plug the wires into the factory clip, but unless I have to, I'm gonna try to keep the harness in tact.

The hanress orginialy plugged into the subwoofer, how did you get wiring to the other side to run to the lock?

I think I am loosing something here.
Can you take a quick pic of the wiring at the harness?
Sorry for the extra work.

The harness is completely unplugged from the factory subwoofer. I am basically trying to run the wires from the harness. Any idea what the yellow wire is for? I can still take a picture of the harness if you need me to.

Nope... I haven't had the time to mess with it. The way I wired it is the way I drew that diagram, but obviously I'm doing something wrong that's keeping it from working.

Are your connections correct ? Left and right and positive and negative ? What wires are which on the sub harness ? I haven't looked at mine or tried it yet. Only thing I can figure is that maybe the connections are incorrect or the LOC you have is bad ? (scratch) (dunno)

Everything should be right... I even switched the pos & neg speaker wires around, and no dice. I also tried several other different combonations and still didn't get anything. The LOC is new, so it should be good, and it's grounded right. As for the wires...

Grn/Blk and Gry/Blk = Speaker ground (not sure R or L)
Grn and Gry = Speaker Positive (not sure R or L)
Red = Power
Black = Ground
Blue = I believe is remote
Yellow = Unsure

in the msp yellow is amp power so try that, as for anything else the best thing to do is get a volt meter and probe everything especially the blue(remote wire) but also make sure you look up the correct wiring on the loc(I don't have alot of experience with them) that could also be causing your problem of no signal to the amp.

I don't think we need to even mess with the power and whatnot right ? Aren't we just worried about the signal wires ? You have to seperately a ground and power wire to your aftermarket amp so, once you break the signal wires loose from the existing sub harness you should be good to go it seems. I dunno for sure. I have an LOC I need to install too. Might try to mess with it tomorrow and see what happens with mine........

Well, I already tried using a volt meter to the blue and red wires, and it gets power. As for the Greens and Grays, they get little or no power, but that is expected only being speaker wire. I'll try to spend more time fooling around with it to see if I can make it work. I've dealt with some stereo equipment before, and the setup I am doing seems simple enough, but it could be something silly I am forgetting.
