STX new think tank - Legal power list

Mazdaspeed... of DOOM!
I pretty much know what we're doing about suspension over time.. but power is something different. We can't directly alter boost or add a FMIC in STX.

We can make it breath better though. I wonder what intake is best for racing... and what kind of turbo back exhuast system would be the most beneficial. Anyone with heavy exhaust experience know what kinds of parts are critical for creating the most power in the autocross band or top end?

What else can we legally do? Are there mazdaspeed headers that do any good?

this year im gonna try to make somting happen in stx.....heres my list..downpipe and injen already installed....tein stechs on there way then gonna wait for godspeeds aka delsingmotorsport products to hit the scene and prob pick up the camber plates and the whole rear bar assembly...that should do it ......maybe a catback also......lets keep this thread goin

No turboback system will be legal in STX unless the # of catalysts is identical to stock, and they must be placed within 6" of stock location as well. AEM makes quality products, as does Injen, i'm not too sure what's available for the MSP, but it would be beneficial to check on that. http://www.moutons.org/sccasolo/Rules/street_touring.html see here for updated Street touring rules for 2004 SCCA Solo2. In short, this year brings STX the addition of motor mounts. a great, great thing. I dont know what you're running now as far as mods, but i would suggest the azenis in 225/45/17, some motor mounts, and a catback exhaust. Turbo backs have a nasty habit of upping boost on most cars, so beware of inspection if you are regionally competetive. Then again, you could always move to the free-for-all SM, lol.

You can replace multiple catalytic converters with a single cat if that cat on the downpipe. The new cat has to be within 6". So a turbo back is legal if it still has at least one cat and that cat is about in the same place as the main replaced cat.

It can up the boost through piping. You cannot manually change the boost levels through wastegate changes, boost controllers or electronics. In DSP you can't change boost levels either but you can remove your entire exhuast system and run catless straight 8" pipes. If you put in a CAI and a full 3" exhaust and boost creeps because that then it is legal.

Oh and I"ve seen 1988 cavaliers blowing smoke pass emissions in Warren County. High flow cat? No problem.
