Stuttering

Hey, this might take a while to explain my problem... I've got a '99 1.8l Protege ES. I have Bosch Platinum +4 spark plugs. A while back my catylatic converter stopped up so I just replaced it and the manifold with aftermarket headers that just got rid of the cat. I also took off all the airbox off, found a K&N cone filter and fitted it to the end of the original air intake hose/tube. I still have all my sensors hooked up exactly the way they should be. Before that, I had noticed a slight stutter right at 3000 rpms. Not accerlating or deccelerating, just keeping right at 3000 rpms in 3rd and 4th gear. I replaced the pluggs, the filter and and the plug wires to try and get rid of it. Now after I put the manifold on (ofcourse my check engine light is on, saying my cat isn't workin... duh, no cat, lol) it hesitates when I mash the throttle from 1000 to 3000 rpms, even in first gear. I figured the car is running rich, the exhaust is putting out real fine black sut... more than normal. So... there's my story and problem.. Ideas anyone?? Anything to do to fix it?

Take it to a mechanic and get an estimate... then do the work yourself?

Hope that helped?

Sounds like somewhere along the line somethin got buggered up.

Wish I could help more then that.

hey check your egr valve. the symptoms seem like a misfire but could possibly be your egr valve if there is some carbon build up. i know this cause i was on my way down to VA to see the wife and sure enough the sputtering starts.
if so on the how to part of the site it shows how to take it off and clean it. good luck how this works for you.
