Stupid Question number 1

I know the cx-7's use the 6x8/5x7 drivers for the doors. Out of curiousity, is there anything to keep me from enlarging the hole to accomodate 6x9's? I realize depth can be an issue and there really isn't THAT much of a difference between 5x7 and 6x9's. I was really just curious.

Also....where seems to be the best location for tweeter seperates? The first choice is the door but after doing a little looking, there seems to be enough room at the top of the a-pillar. Although having the tweeters that close to your head might be more of a pain than it's worth..literally.

Thanks,

Don

First of all, there is no such a thing as a stupid question.
YOu do not want to enlarge the hole. Make a braket out of 1/2 inch MDF to accomodate whatever speaker you choose to install.
In terms of depth, don't even worry. CX-7s have huge depths for speakers.
Also, never install the tweeter on top of the A-pillar because your airbags would not work prpperly if you do. I have mine installed at the eyelevel to give me a proper imaging and to avoid malfunction of airbags. you want to install the tweeters right below where the airbags are located.

Hope this helped.

to elaborate on the above post:

take a piece of 1/2 MDF and trace your stock speaker onto it, making sure to mark the screw hole positions. trace the new speaker over top of the other design. cut off the outside of the new speaker line. measure the lip of the stock speaker and draw as close as you can to the inside basket of the stock speaker. cut the inside out. drill pilot holes where you marked the screw holes for the stock speaker, install in car in factory position. install new speaker using 1/2" screws.

if the door depth is an issue(the area between the interior panel and the metal), you can use a router to cut down the inside of the new speaker line, creating a recessed area for the speaker to mount to.

Stereo Question

Very cool. Thanks for the replies. My install kit and harness should be here in the next day or so. Sounds like i'm gonna spend a few hours in the garage this weekend...and you know I hate that (naughty)
