Street Racing Bust Video

Moral of the story is take it the track and prove how fast your car is. I'm tired of seeing lives ruined over something as silly as racing your damn car on the street. Granted, I can't go too far on that statement because I have been known to dick around from time to time on the road..only by myself on open road and late at night (or on certain mazda convoys)..that way it'd just be me making the stupid mistakes..but in general, I don't condone street racing whatsoever..but hey, kids will do what they want until they learn otherwise..

What the **** does street racing have to do with exhausts? That is just stupid. I got pulled over with my friend one time for his exhaust and as the cop was walking up to us, a Harley started up across the street and the cop started telling us why he pulled us ove. But we both started chuckling as he started yelling to be heard over the bike, so he walked back to his car and drove away. Didn't pull the harley over, just wanted to hassle a couple kids with a loud car, but not an old guy with a loud bike.

So I ask you, what the **** does that have to do with racing?

I was making more of a generalized statement supporting..i think..lara's..

on the topic of exhausts..if your town has ordinances against them..then its your fault if you get pulled over. Cops are allowed to profile vehicles..Perfectly legal, and statisically effective in stopping drug possession, stolen cars (parts). Both my brothers are cops so I hear it frequently. Your best bet is to stay off the radar as much as possible. Cops pulls you over for an exhaust..you better have a damn good reason why. I run header-back w/o cats..on most proteges it'd be loud as hell..however, i've spent quite a bit of time figuring out ways to keep the noise down without effecting the flow..I haven't been pulled over in ages..*knocks on wood

Whats street racing has to do with exhaust; simple the stupid acts people with exhaust are doing on the streets.
You get harleys racing each other in traffic every little chance they get and they to will start to get targeted. The exhaust crack downs rarely ever happen unless the street racing has picked up or some kid gets killed or kills a family.

And also as far as the dB ratings go a Harley is not naturally that loud, they take the resinators out. Plus there is laws under way in some areas to quiet them down to.

Two thing's 1)There are no noise ordances in Bumfuck, Alabama, the cop was just being an asshole, and it's not the only time I've heard of it happening around here 2) Any harley, stock or not, is louder than his car will ever be. I forget what exhaust he has (honda civic) but it's not much louder than mine, which is a mazdaspeed axle back with full stock exhaust system up to there. Harley's are very loud out of the factory. Not as loud as the one we were next to, but still.

The thing that pisses me off is that he pulled us over, but then when there was a motor vehicle clearly a lot louder than us across the street, he didn't do jack s***!

And profiling is illegal Kyle. At least in america it is. And yeah, it is a good form of crime prevention, and I believe if airport security guys were allowed to profile freely, the trace center would still be there. But that's the thing about america; everyone is supposed to have equal rights. So kids in imports have been statistically proven to commit more traffic offenses than an old man in a buick. So what? Black people STATISTICALLY commit more violent crime than white people. That doesn't give cops the legal right to racially profile, so why should it be different for a certain social group, like young import tuners?

In my state it's illegal to have any vehicle with an aftermarket exhaust in a residential zone after 11pm. When I say aftermarket, I mean everything. It's insane..but somehow its a law. If you get spotted with a shithead fart can muffler in these areas late at night..your car is getting towed. When I first heard about this..I went nuts..Doesn't really apply to me..(thank god my muffler says mazdaspeed) but I've seen so many cars towed in the last 4-5 months from this insane law..However, its about to be appealed because I'm sure some richboy got pulled over and his parents weren't too thrilled..well..it was quiet around here for atleast a little while.

Yep in some states the dB rating isn't even needed just having any muffler even the MSP on a P5 is illegal. Gay yes. And yes it comes down to profiling which is illegal but also legal. There is a fine line that has to be walked when doing any such activity. But profiling is done in some form or another, and is needed in order to investigate any issue.

So yes if 80 year olds in Buicks started to race on surface streets in traffic every chance they get like here! THEN yes they will get pulled over. Sorry but it is just crazy at times here and I have no problem with police pulling kids over.

why were there 400 cars there?

You want to know why? The nearest drag stip that regularly allows sport compacts is an hour and a half drive out of Minneapolis, in a town in the middle of nowhere. And they hold races once every 2 weeks and sign up is at by 10:00am. (and believe me, there are a hell of a lot of people that DO make the trip)
SO...

If you live in Minneapolis/St. Paul and want to race legally you have to wake up at 7:00am on a frickin' Saturday and drive for over an hour, oh and you have to wait 2 weeks to do it again.

That's why you get 400 cars out on a Friday night to race! All we need is someone to open up a drag strip in the Metro Area here and hold races more often than ONCE EVERY 2 FRICKIN' WEEKS. and have races AT NIGHT!!! They would make a sh#t load of $$$ and the police wouldn't have to deal with scenes like the video. What the hell are the kids supposed to do around here????? I know its against the law, but honestly if your a stupid 18 year old kid (like most) you just want to go out and have a good time. If a track was around here, I know it would be VERY popular.

What do you guys think about that? Opinions? How close is your drag strip? and how popular is it?

The strip here is about 1-2 hours depending on if you go during rush hour, and it is PACKED everytime. Generally get a 3-4 runs in and meet some cool people.

Just realize though that if you street race take it way outside from the public area and realize it is Illegal thus the cops have EVERY right to go and bust it up.

Yeah I understand your frustration. I always complain about a track not being close to me..then I realize I have Englishtown 2 hours away, lebanon just over an hour, New England dragway about 2-3, then stafford springs about 1 hour..Some people don't even have a tuner friendly track in their entire state. There is a lot of money in opening a track..however, it takes a lot of money to open one up and keep it open.

allright well now i come in, my closest track is in canada 2 1/2 hrs away. plus the border and dealing with canadian cops...... they take imports every friday but with all the classes i get 4 runs for 30 or so dollars plus 5+ hrs of driving..... so why even ask if i street race..... i do almost every night but it is always with no traffic or on a sideroad where nobody will be..... do i go to seattle where their are 400+ cars racing...... hell no...... what is the point since that is 2 hrs away anyway.... do i know it is illegal..... yup......... if i am at a redlight and a tiberon pulls up next to me do i smoke him and hit 90 in a 40 ..... (guess so since it happened today.......) my point is ....... if a strip was here i would race their every night..... (entry fee and all) but since i live on a ******* island i will take what i can get!!!!!! legal or not..... flame on..... i bet 85% of people here will run their car for the hell of it on the street...........if not more....... now on the topic once again..... they picked a dumb spot to race and 400+ got caught but only a handfull got tickets.......

I still dont thinkit was an MSP. I think it was a normal sedan with a full conversion on it. I mean, why would somebody take an MSP there when all that rice would just bring it down. A conversion would sorta fit in though, as long as it was still n/a.
