Boost levels from this run coming soon....(takes a while to compile it all nicely)

Bad news. Auterra Dyno-Scan stops Live Data (OBDII) recording while doing a Dyno run. (pissed) I exported the data and the logging stopped right when I clicked start on the acceleration Dyno test. Looks like a feedback email to Customer Support.

I'll try to to a pure Live Data recording without the acceleration Dyno on another 1/4 mile run.

Nice driving ...how abusive was the flat shifts to the clutch?

Thanks, was fun! Won't know until I need to replace it! Pedal doesn't feel any different though. Actually, since the tires spun a bit each shift, some of the energy was lost and therfore I think there is less stress on the clutch than if it were AWD.

Wow, some nice figures. Flat-shifting makes my heart bleed, however :(.

Yea, now all I think about is "I hope I didn't damage anything". I know now that reaching the figures that the magazines and adds claim is not very easy and always seems to be best, best case numbers. It's definitely not an everyday driving style.

Nice run! I think you've been at this longer than your saying. The MS6 had a bunch of issue that I think were related to hard launching and flat-shifting. Mazda fixed most of them under warranty, I think b/c they had touted how tough it was. Anyway, this thing should be able to take more abuse than the MS6, exactly for the reason you say: no AWD. The AWD launch is awesome, but yeah, that's the flip side all that torque is staying right in the powertrain.

In general I agree, but Mazda actually reccomends it for the best performance. I think it was in R&T the mazda engineers said to the testers, "pop the clutch at 2900, up shift at 6900, then flat shift through 2nd and 3rd. Trust us, it won't break" I know thats not the exact quote, but its close to that and def gives me piece of mind if I take it to the strip

yeah, ur right...i knew it wasnt an exact quote, but you get my drift
They also said that they didn't do it that way, because it goes against their testing criteria.

What are you worried about, Wikipedia said it was okay!(nailbyt)

jeez, everybody getting critical of me today... im just saying that the car can probly handle a little hard acceleration and flat shifting here and there and mazda backs that up

they all worry too much ....flat shift its fun !! and unless you suck at it you wont hurt your car !

Didn't mean to criticize. Here's some text from the Car and Driver article.

The Mazdaspeed 3 is only a bit less tricky to launch than a space shuttle. Most of the runs up the drag strip vanished in excessive tire smoke. Or they deflated when the driver, trying to stanch the wheelspin, inadvertently cued the waste gate. Or grabbed the wrong gear with the spongy shifter. Calls to Mazda yielded tips: Pop the clutch at 2900 rpm, upshift at 6000 redline is 6700 and flat-shift through second and third (which means dont lift at all the mechanical equivalent of dropping a Steinway on the clutch and half-shafts and violating our test procedure).

Dont worry, the engineers said, it wont break.

It didnt even after painting the pavement Bridgestone black with more than 30 hole shots. Working the shifter feverishly the low ratios in first and second mean two shifts happen before 60 mph we finally scorched a 5.8-second 0-to-60 time and a 14.4-second quarter-mile at 99 mph. The 156-hp Mazda 3 s wagon hits 60 in 7.4 seconds. The last WRX sedan we tested ran six flat to 60 with a 14.6-second quarter-mile and all four wheels digging [Cheap Speed, Round 23, C/D, September 2005]. Thats a difference worth knowing. We also did more than the usual stops from 70 mph, getting 167 feet, and circled a dusty, less-than-perfect skidpad to produce a brag-worthy 0.87 g.

It goes on to say
Yes, sir, get it right, and the Mazdaspeed 3 has speed in double-E size. Itll run off a GTI and slap a Civic Si silly.

We should start a 0-60 and 1/4 mile log thread like the WRK STI forums. Only bone stock and then one for modded Speed 3's. Thoughts?

sure..go for it man! Just make sure there is a qualifier on there that this is not in any way street racing related...gotta protect mazdaforums arse
