Strange noise from turbo?

Ok, so to start I have an SRI, and the forge BOV. 2nd this noise just started today, or is now loud enough that i noticed it. What seems to be happening is when the turbo spools up, a noise starts, not the suction noise from the intake, its more of a "kazoo" noise, like a strange whistle or something, kind of hard to actually explain now that I think about it. (shrug) I just want to make sure that I'm not aobut to loose my turbo, or if something is touching the turbine or what, if anyone has any ideas, or if this is normal and I just didn't notice it before, do tell.

Your description is a little vague, but from what I can tell you have a minor boost leak. The whistling sound is from the boost leaking through a small pin hole in one of you pressure pipes leading from the turbo to the IC to the TB. Not unusual especially if you have stock pipes running higher boost.

Ok i'll try to be a bit more specific just because I highly doubt its a boost leak, since I have no boost controller, nor have i done any type of mod to up the boost. Now that I listened to it more, it actually sounds like a superchager whine, like a very small motor turning on and off, when the turbo spools, that is when the noise starts. And its like someone has turned ona little motor, then when i let off the gas, the noise dies down as the rpms fall on the turbine. Sorry about before, I think a whistle was the wrong way to put it... If this helps you guys in deciding if something is wrong, GREAT. If not I guess I can try to get a sound clip of it, but i don't know how clear it will be... but i'll leave that for next. Thanks again

um,the way your explaining it,it sounds like the sound of a turbo spooling with a short intake

mine turbo sqeals like a cricket!!! kind of like metal on metal sound, but so highpitched and fast sounds like a cricket. I know others who have had the same sound and to have their turbos replaced.

Finally got some good information

Ok so hopefully some more people will look at this again, I have done some reading on the forums as to other turbo noises and such, and can much better describe whats going on. The noise that is coming form my engine bay is directly related to the throttle, and will rise and fall with my pushing or releasing of the gas. The noise is only evident from about 2,000 rpms until the actual turbo "spool noise" occurs at about 4,000 rpms. I still can describe it as some sort of whistling, just much more harsh than the turbo spool. This is my 1st turbo car so I don't know if I should be hearing this. I plan on getting a recording of it tonight with my digital camera which hopefully will let you guys hear the sound. I only have to find a way to host it as of now, if you just pm me with an email i'll email it to you and hopefully you can tell me what it is.

From what I've read so far I'm either about to fry my bearings in the turbo, or this is a totally normal noise, either way I want a final answer soon. Thanks again guys.

the nipple on my turbo->intercooler slightly broke and was causing a slight leak. when it was spooling, it made a really loud whistle noise (not the spooling noise). glued it back up and it was gone. so most likely you are experiencing some kind of small leak, it is hard to find, but keep on looking for it. check and re-check all the clamps and tighten them as necessary.

I had the same problem.. It was like a whistling sound.. Then I changed the hoses and it stopped..

mine sounded like a screeching bottle rocket on cold days with the stock airbx. Since adding a CAI, I hear nothing but the suction sound from the turbo spool.
