Well, sucks about the ticket. Sounds like the cop you encountered was being an ass hole. But still, you had illegal tint and got caught. Is it profiling? Probably. But that's the price you pay to drive a somewhat flashy car. A cop can pull you over for anything. He may not have a reason, but I'm sure in court he could say you were acting suspicious. Regardless, just pay the ticket and move on.

You can either comply and have your windows checked. If they are illegal than he/she can either write you a ticket or let you off.
or
You can refuse and be arrested. From there you will be taken to jail and your car will be impounded. They will check your windows for you at the impound lot. Then after you either post bail or they let you go, you will not only get to pay for the window ticket but your car's nice little tow truck ride as well.

I still think it's funny when people break publicly posted laws knowingly, then complain about getting in trouble for it
I'm not complaining about that....I can handle a ticket. It's more the fact that the cop acted like a total fuckhead that gets to me. Also the fact that because of the way our car looks, I was subjected to a "routine vehicle inspection" just so the cop could roll up my windows and give me a ticket.
Perhaps you misunderstand the purpose behind the law?? It is to protect officers so that they can see inside your car to ensure you are not brandishing a gun. If I was driving with my windows down, is it not the same as not having them tinted at all? The officer had visibility into my car.
I think what really gets to me is the fact that I fixed it, and when I went to get it written off they didn't even look at my car. Oh well, it is what it is.
Do you ALWAYS have your windows down? He was perfectly justified in issuing a ticket, though acting like a douche on the prejudice of how your car looks was pretty lame. That and not personally checking the car afterwords is pretty stupid, I do agree with you there.
I have 5% on my rear and 18% on the front, luckily I've never had a problem with the cops here. My buddy has an STI and got pulled over for tint and 1 guy with a 300zx got pulled over and was forced to peel the tint off on the side of the road or be given a $400 ticket...thats kinda of a dick move. Man I'm glad the mazdaspeeds dont attract a lot of attentions like some other imports.
I live in a ritzy part of Southern California, where no matter where you look, you see Mercedes, BMWs, Porches.....all with jet black limo tint. It seems that the cops are less interested in giving tickets to them, but instead would rather ticket a young man dressed in a tie and shirt on his way to work.
I am definitely bitter still, and if my windows were up then I would fully agree with the ticket. Anyways I reported the officer's behavior (although I'm sure that nothing will happen), paid the ticket, and now my car looks r'tarded with tint on the rears and not the front.

I feel ya. There are a bunch of high-end lux cars and limos in DC with obviously illegal tint, but they are politicians or diplomats, so they never get pulled over.
That's just crazy talk. Where else in the US can you be 1 hour away from the beach, mountains, desert and forest? Looks like I will be staying in SoCal for a long time.
sounds perfect. if the cost of that is a stupid tint ticket every now and then so be it(drinks)
i lived a while in san diego, on coronado. loved it there. however its too bad you won't have a state tax refund to put into your car this year, and i imagine all the new taxes you'll be seeing here in a bit might put a hamper on that too. not to mention the extreme price of living already in cal. so its not just an occasional tint ticket. but hell, in my new state radar detectors are outlawed... so i guess i can't win either

I griped about the cost of housing in northern CA, but I definitely second that reason for living there and look forward to moving back.
That said, I'm surprised all the time how many of you guys on this forum advocate fraud. Dealerships, insurance companies, the judicial system... some of you have no qualms about lying to and attempting to deceive any of them. Maybe I'm just an old fart and part of a dead or dying breed... but I seriously just don't get it.
