I just spent the last 40 mins looking for something to make up my mind for me. I'm doing front and rear speakers. I've got (in the mail) a JL 500/5 amp (100x2, 25x2, 250x1), 10w6v2 sub, and i'm in the process of deciding on 4 speakers. Components in front, coaxials in rear. The jl shop near me only has the xr's on the wall, no VR's. I keep hearing that the VR's are smoother highs than the XR's, but the XR's are better if they are getting more power. Also, the VR's have a 3/4" tweeter and the XR's have a 1" tweeter.

First question...what is the size of the stock tweeter? Is it a pain modifying to whichever size it isn't?
Second question...could anyone who's heard both the VR's and XR's chime in with their opinion please? I can't find a reason to choose one over the other.

Thanks.

I prefer the VR series as the tweeters are soft dome which I find less harsh than the metal dome XR series and you will save money in the process. Be sure to audition the speakers with some music that you are familiar with and buy the speakers that sound best to you. Godd choice of system components as it is hard to go wrong with JL Audio equipment.

i dont remeber the size of my Focals -- i think 1 inch but not sure -- anyways -- you can get them to fit in the stock spot by taking the tweeter out of its casing and just put it in the stocker -- if that makes sence :)

My old VR's fit nicely in the stock tweeter location. It'll need a little hot glue, silicone, or foam tape to mount then so the don't rattle.
