Hey, I went to 3 local tire places today to try and get some tires put on the front of my protege5, and each place basically said the same thing, they don't have that size instock, because it's new and it's a strange size. They said they can order them, but they are going to cost like 140ish a pop, and about 3 something for the whole deal, tires, install. is that about right?? thats expensive, i just want some inexpensive tires until I can afford rims and stuff, and 300+ is really a rip off if you ask me, what do you guys suggest i do??

There are better tires out there than the stockers for less money.

It all depends on your needs: summer performance, all weather, year round, how long you need them to last and so on.

I've been disappointed with the stock tires on my MSP. There are about 15 different tires I'd buy to replace them that all cost LESS than the stockers would, will last longer and perform FAR better.

You might also try Discounttiredirect.com Their prices are a bit higher, but no sales tax and free shipping...

Tirerack has:

Stockies: $104
Kumho 712: $61 (Great Price)
Goodyear Eagle RS-A: 116

Yeah, i was thinking about the Kumho 712: $61 (Great Price). They are real cheap, and from what i read, they are good for handling... anyone with any experiance with these??

The Kumho 712s are great for the street as long as there's no ice.

They SUCK for autox, and forget it in the winter. If you go with these, living in NJ, you'll need a set of winter tires too.

She's a he, that's just a pic.....

You can get much cheaper plus zero and plus one size tires that more places will have in stock:

205/45/16
205/50/16
even the right 215/45/16's will fit, they look very full on our stock wheels, I cant remember which. Those are much more common sizes.

does anyone know anything about NT 450 Extreme Performance?? I found them in 205/50R/16... that will def. fit right? will it be bigger or smaller than stock, idk what the 205 stands for...

Also, would it be okay to just use thoes on the front, and still have the stock tires on the back?

If you'd like a little more selection in the stock size than what tirerack and discount tire offer, you might try this place: 1010tires

I just bought a set of Toyo Proxes TPTs from them. Haven't had them mounted yet cause I'm burning the remaining tread (at 23,000 miles) off the original tires... ;)

Next tires...

I bought Yokohoma Avid H4s @ 205/45/16 from www.tirerack.com for $75 a piece. They seem pretty good, and have a 45,000 mile warranty. We drive a lot of highway miles, so longevity is pretty important to me.

1010tires.com didn't seem to have very good prices.
