stock tires worth replacing?

I'm looking to get some OZ Ultraleggeras. Are the stock tires decent? Should I replace them? I'm still taking it easy, I'm well under 500 miles.

Your advice, please.

Thanks,

Your stock tires are supposed to be very good just have a low treadwear so they'll need replacing pretty soon from being so soft!

They are some of the best tires around for dry pavement, price reflects it as well. The problem lies in wet pavement, they seem to hydroplane a bit and dont even think of using them in snow.

quite honestly, selling stock tires just isn't worth it. it's a lot of trouble, and not many people want to buy used tires. (i know i don't) if i were you, i would just use them up and worry about buying new ones afterwards.

EDIT: i know what they retail for, but very few people buy the stockers again because it's just not worth 200+ a pop for tires that wear out in like 10k-15k miles when you could have better tires for less...=/

I am very opinionated about this. Burn the stock tires to the ground. at the track, of course. there are much better tires for alot less money. all depends on what you want from a tire. The Bs are rated well but they were a bit jumpy with steering response and without a good road feel for me. Felt they were always over pressured. And man did they spin easy, great for smoke shows or just showing off I guess.I might suggest you consider a bit wider wheel to accommodate a 225 or more down the road. A 7.5 or 8" wheel will be ok with stock tire till you replace tires.

i would search around the forums as there are tons. What kind of of performance do you want from your car, I suppose. Long tread life or really sticky dry traction. Or maybe something in between that would be good for all seasons. I think that is where the line can be blurry. But on other cars I have used Blizzaks in the the snow and I was so impressed, that I realized a dedicated summer tire and a winter tire would suit me best. Since my Mazdaspeed will only be driven in summertime I chose a wider Nitto tire that wears a bit quicker but has excellent dry traction, not so much in rain or puddling waters. It really depends on what you want CWP. I thought the Bridgestones were a little expensive to replace once worn even if I wanted another set. The Nittos were about 125 apiece. What are the Bs going for nowadays?

I've read a lot of the other threads on tires, I was just wondering what you suggested. I just rotated my tires for the first time because I only have 5k miles so I dont need to replace the stocks quite yet but I think personally I am going with summer tires and then all season tires for winter. Probably the Pirelli's. The Bdrigestones were about 197 when I got my car and some places are selling them as high as 230 now, I wont be buying more of those...

all seasons for the winter are just fine. just make sure that you're not on summer tires in the winter...;)

Maybe I'm just not as hard on mine. I have 26k on mine and still a tiny bit left before the wear-bars. Going to go with 225/45/18 or 235/40/18 on stock wheels (bought a new computer - wheels have to wait :()

stock MS3 tires are EXCELLENT summer tires. they are Y rated. (Highest rating) there is a reason they cost what they do!! thank Mazda for not going cheapo on one of the most important safety items on the car. if you go for a cheaper tire, check the rating! then decide if your worth it.

20k and the stockers are still alive with some hard miles on them... They are getting close though, you can tell big time in the rain, the performance is diminishing...

The young one in the great avatar, appears to be concerned about traction in the wet conditions. Buy some good safe tires so he can relax about emergency stopping and lane changes, gees speedster!
