stock tire size

I've got a P5 that I bought used and it had 195/50-16 on the front and 205/50-16 on the back (it's on stock 16" alloy rims). It's my understanding that the stock tire size is 195/50-16 but it's ok to go up to 205/50-16.

The front wheels were replaced not long ago with the stock size and I need to replace the rear wheels because they were cracked on the sidewall when I got the car and they've been bothering me. So, should I stick with the 205/50-16 on the rear or go back to the stock size? Does it make any difference in handling since it's a front wheel drive car? When I searched the forum, it seemed people recommended the 205/50-16. Any help would be appreciated.

Interesting set up.

Quiet a few people run 205's because they are more widely available, and I think they are a little cheaper as well. Wider tires are sticker too because you have a bigger contact patch. You shouldn't notice too much of a difference in handling if you go with stock on the back. If you went 205's all around though you would notice quite a difference and even more the lower the profile. The stock size is an odd ball size and less readily available so they tend to be a little more $$, but skinny tires give you better mileage and they cut through snow and water better. I find it best to run the same size tires all around which ever size you choose.

Thanks for the response. I was thinking the same size all around would be best. Unfortunately, I already replaced the front two with the stock size before realizing the rears were slightly larger and figuring out what to do. Might just have to go 195 on the rear until the next time I need tires.

don't forget there's always the option for 215s...they're hard to find, but my Hankooks were relatively cheap, have worn well and I have amazing grip from the contact patch!
