STOCK RIMS STARTING TO CORRODE on 2002 Protege5 got in May 2001.

Paint is bubbling and starting to flake off on the aluminum rims after 2 years and 4 months.

Are these rims 100% aluminum ?
Can I get these things sandblasted and repainted.

Anybody get yours repainted?

I was thinking of getting them sandblasted and then anodized(blue) and painted clear coat.

Yes, you can get them refinished. I wonder if warranty covers that? I'll be pissed if mine start doing that!

They're aluminum alloy (100% pure any metal would suck - there wouldn't be enough strength, would corrode, etc.)

Sounds to me like the clear coat has seen better days (like 2 years and 5 months ago :P...sorry...didnt' mean to be an ass :D )

Anodizing something that large might be expensive (you could look into it); most people get their wheels powercoated - though anodized will have that "made of" appearance.

Just a question: did you ride those wheels during the winter? I'm just wondering if any salt may have caused that....

Brake dust is a well known cause for this. I wipe mine down once a week, doing so my slow to damage, otherwise check that warranty.

Yep! they went through the winter twice......yea it could be salt but each week no matter what I wash the car.

But I also some of the screws and bolts on the outside of the car look like they are starting to corrode also. Looks like I will have to change them to stainless steel screws.

I looked in the manual for warranty stuff but it is like usuall s*** by dealers, if it ain't rust through they won't replace it.

I will take very close picture tomorrow and post it.
