Stock Racing Beat Springs

I was wondering if the Stock Racing Beat Springs on our car would lower a regular protege? I'm thinking about selling mine.

They are actually not racing beat springs, they are made by the MAZDA OEM. Only the prototype MP3 tuned by Racing beat had racing beat springs on. All the info on that in on the Racing Beat website. And they will lower the car by 3/4 of an inch. I got the Racing beat springs on my sedan ( bought from Racing beat when they ran a small production) and thats what they lowered my car. Now the car is sitting just right, this is where it should sit stock, instead of that lift kit we have !! :D

Out of curiousity, I emailed Racing Beat and asked what the difference was between the production MP3 springs and the MP3 springs they sell. Here's the reply:

---------------

The springs that we supplied on the final prototype that we supplied to
Mazda are the same that we now offer for sale. We are not certain, but we
think that Mazda's engineers raised the ride height and softened the ride a
bit from our recommendations. Since we really haven't had the need to
compare the springs against each other, we have no direct comparative data.

-----

So I get the feeling the difference is "not much"?

So do you think that by putting them on it would increase the handling comprable to the new MSP? Cuz' the MSP has stiffer and lower springs doesnt it or did they change the dampers.

Hmmm, what actually makes them "Racing Beat" springs...Your springs aren't actually "Racing Beat" springs, because Racing Beat out sources their springs to a spring maker. I don't believe Racing Beat has the facilities to make their springs in house.

Semantics isn't worth arguing. The springs in the MP3, for all tense and purposes, are "Racing Beat" springs. The springs in the MP3 however are different from those that are sold by Racing Beat now. The difference isn't much, but the handling should be the same.

The MP3 springs aren't as stiff as the Racing Beat springs by the percentage rate given, however this doesn't mean that they aren't the same spring rates proportionately. The MP3 springs don't lower the car as much as the Racing Beat springs, hence the difference in the stiffeneing percentage.

In order to determine if the MP3 "Racing Beat" springs and the Racing Beat "Racing Beat" springs are the same is to put them on a spring dyno and determine the rate, then put them in the same car back to back to determine if there is any difference between the two.

Yes, Racing Beat has had no reason to do this. Yes, Mazda changed the ride hieght that Racing Beat sent over in the pre-production test car. Yes, Mazda used their OEM spring supplier to make the springs based on what Racing Beat sent them.

The springs in the MP3 are powder coated the Racing Beat red, and have the name on them. For that reason they are "Racing Beat" springs. If they aren't, then no one acutally owns "Racing Beat" springs, regardless of the name on them and the color.

Next you are going to tell me that the sturts in the MP3 aren't really made by Tokico.

As for the Mazdaspeed Protege, they changed the dampening and spring rate slightly. Enough of a change to make the car handle a little better and to get rid of a little more understeer that was present in the MP3.

hey i talked to some one at racing beat to see is maybe they would make a header for the MP3. They said NO. any way i asked him what is they did diferrent on the MSP and they said the springs are a little stiffer. But it's really only a SLIGHT changed. and the two cars are almost identical in handling. the MSP handles slightly better.

Why would Racing Beat create a header for the 2.0litre engine in the MP3? As much as I love mine, I realize that it is now six years old and no aftermarket company is going to first start making parts for the car. Mazda has moved on to the 2.3litre and a different chassis.

There are a number of fine companies that have supported the Protege series and continue to do so. Racing Beat did the prototype, isn't that enough?

the the stock MP3 springs don't say s*** on them... and they ARE different than the ones sold/made by Racing Beat themselves... this difference alone is enough to make it improper to call the stock MP3 or MSP springs "Racing Beat" springs  and it is most definately so that the spring rates are different

calling the stock springs "racing beats" just because they are red and racing beat was involved in developing the car does not make them "racing beats" when they are NOT built to the same specs.... it's as stupid as calling an Lotus tuned Isuzu Impulse (was factory btw) a Lotus

Holy back from the dead thread.

As for the Racing Beat springs used in the MP3 and MSP, Mazda marketed it that way. No one (that I have heard) knows the actual rates for either the MP3 spring nor the Racing Beat spring sold by them.

The only difference between the MP3/MSP spring and the Racing Beat spring is the ride height, if that. It is not known if the rate is any different, or if the handling characteristics are different. I spoke at length with Racing Beat about this very subject way back when. Even the guy who developed the suspension didn't know if there is any real difference between the two springs.

And, your logic is flawed. Racing Beat tuned the suspension and Mazda marketed the car with Racing Beat springs and Tokico struts. On top of that, I didn't see Tokico anywhere on the struts when I removed them. They were just blue. So, what does that mean.

Isuzu didn't market the Impulse as a Lotus. However Lotus did design the suspension, which is what was marketed.

I don't know the rates of the MP3 springs, but I do know the RB springs are 162lb/in (front) and 111-190lb/in (rear). Since the rear springs have a progressive wind, they are different from the MP3 springs, which are linear.

Actually Lotus selected the swaybars and spring and damping rates for the Impulse. The suspension geometry was designed by Isuzu.

And my struts do actually have a Tokico engraving on them. It's a little hard to read- it's filled over partly with blue paint. But it is there.

And here, back when the thread started oh so many years ago, I was told the RB springs were linear too.

Don't mean to be a nazi, but if you want to sell, you've got to follow the rules.
Yeah, I don't see this as being a problem since this thread started in 2002! On top of that, smp3000 got rid of his MP3 a couple of years ago.
