Stock msp clutch good?

I have a msp tranny I am putting in my 2.0 mx6 this spring that came with the stock msp clutch. Should I bother putting it in? It has around 30k miles on it. I
"plan" on boosting as well. I know an upgraded one would of course be better but what about the STOCK clutch, any good? Any help is appreciated, thanks

the stock msp clutch has a better pressure plate, but no so much better that you'll be blown away by it.

Its a heavy duty clutch. 03.5's are even stronger. Your ultimate horsepower goal will dictate whether or not to change it. But given the amount of miles and the fact that you have access to it now, I'd probably change it now. Especially if you don't know how it was treated for those 30K. Mine has no problem grabbing and handling increased boost at 52K.

hmm, its just a matter of spending the money for a good new one or not. ugh. well at least i have a couple months to ponder it. it sure looks nice and new though.

I'd say your best bet is to put the stock clutch in. If it starts slipping once you boost it, then put a new one in, but as long as you're not trying to make over 250wtq, you should be fine.

Replace the clutch now while everything is apart.

My stock MSP clutch started slipping instantly after I tuned it with an EMS. 220tq @ 15k miles = clutch owned.

Spend an $300 now and save yourself pulling the tranny again.

MSP clutch = stock Protege clutch with a slightly better pressure plate as Ken said. It is by no means anything special.

My stock clutch started slipping at 20K. In the market for a new one.

Damn, interesting comments in here. I took mine out at 30k, and I was making well over 250wtq on it for quite awhile. When I took it out, it was just barely starting to slip in 4th gear, and I was pushing 270wtq at that time. I'd say it is just like all wear and tear items, it's gonna wear out faster if you beat on it. I think some of you guys maybe thrashed on it a little or didn't break it in properly, so you might be underestimating it.

ozmojo1 - My advice to you is go ahead and throw a better one in there if you can afford it, because it will be easier to install it while the tranny is being swapped in. You really don't know how the previous owner took care of it, so it could be a good idea to replace it now and save yourself the time and/or money of doing it later. It can hold some good power though, so if you are on a budget and the clutch looks like it is in good shape, then it might not hurt to throw it in there if you are going to push less than 275ish wtq.
