Doing a rebuild on my engine, gonna put a 3071 in there... But how much can the stock flywheel take?

Anyone?

The flywheel isnt your problem. Its the clutch. And, stock clutches are not too good with the power output of bigger turbos before they start slipping.

I know that the flywheel itself dosent limit my horsepower output. But i do know that it can brake/explode.

Just wanted to know if someone has had any problems with the stock flywheel.

Im gonna go with a spec 3+ clutch.

if you are changing the clutch, there is a good bit of benefit to be had by changing the flywheel;

typically, its best to resurface the flywheel when replacing the clutch. you can't really do that with the factory unit, so you either hope the flywheel is evenly worn enough to where you can get away with slapping a new clutch over it or you buy a replacement. and if there are hot spots on the flywheel, you will burn through a new clutch very quickly. stock replacements are almost $900 and weigh over twice as much as a performance replacement. you can also swap the friction surface of a performance flywheel over and over again, so as you change clutches or do maintenance you save a bit rather than replacing entire flywheels.

keep in mind, this doesn't even address the performance benefit of a lighter flywheel :)
