stock engine, can i run low psi?

:
2001 mazda protege mp3
my mazda has a obx header and cold air intake and was wondering what a safe psi would be to run on the car, i do not want to do any damage or possible blow my engine. anyone have any suggestions?

I have a lot of info. :-) If you want you can call me which would make this a lot simpler. Just PM me and we can go from there.

the two parts you mentioned will be eliminated by any turbo kit you decide to run. with basic fuel management you can get away with 5 to 6 psi on the mp3 ECU and up to 8 on a standard protege ECU. these are rough numbers dependent on what size turbo or what kit you run with whatever components.

yeah what ken said. that header and intake will need to be replaced by a manifold and a new different intake.

what your asking is a very very expensive and long road.

many have done it and tell you how great it is.

i would advise against it.

but thats just my 2.

ignore if you want.

if you have a lot of money, I'd buy something that's faster from the factory... unless you want an ongoing project car

true....unless you go for low power. Something like 190 or so HP. Just an MSP setup should be good with tuning and you'll have plenty of fun.

So a mp3 ecu can be used with a msp turbo setup? or do you need a piggyback to go with the mp3 ecu?

i said the ECU would be fine for lower psi with basic fuel management. this means you need either a rising rate regulator or you need a piggyback

I gota Protege MP3 running the hiboost kit with the haltech f10x on a stock protege ecu. Stock injectors.... 2 1/2 inch exhaust....
And it dont run right...... I need major help but my car needs it more......
It runs fine sometimes but picks up missfire after a while..
Spits gas out the exhaust...
Seems to missfire.... ONly every now an then.. disconnecting the batt. resets this problem....
rich under no load but really lean under boost..
people have told me i need everything from a afpr to a full stand alone system

GIVE ME your feedback..!!!!!!!!!!
thanks..

wow...if you have this car and don't know you ALREADY have a standalone then you should study more about what is IN your car before you drive it. As for feedback....Your car should be running fine IF (BIG IF) tuned correctly. Who installed the Haltech, mine resets every time I turn off the car, I never have to pull the battery? I think the ONLY issue you have may be tunning. Also if you are running the stock MP3 ECU you should look into getting a protege es ECU to better manage the timing. MP3 ecus have advanced timing=bad for turbo. ES have a more retarded timing=good for turbo. I would recommend that be the first thing you look into then find a good tuner that has worked on Proteges.

I Have a protege es ecu already installed... The haltech comes from hiboost tunned/premapped for a set car...

lets make one thing clear for everyone buying one of these kits - the whole 'premapped/pretuned' thing is somewhat of a misnomer. the map on the F10X is a generous/safe tune to get the car running and so you won't blow it up in boost. i had to do a complete retune on mine and any of the F10Xs from Hiboost I have installed. there really is no way to take into account all climates and variables to 'pretune' a system for all cars. i strongly recommend getting a wideband and doing some research for tuning or taking it to be tuned on the dyno. you should NEVER have to reset the ECU to make the haltech run the car better. you either have a poor tune or it is wired in wrong.
