Status of everyone's n/a build?

Holy crap, good response to my thread. So many things I want to reply to, but first off, Mike R, pics of the Country Squire? :) I assume this is a station wagon? Oh s***, what a sleeper this will make. I am picturing the wagon from Chevy Chase's movie Vacation.

*ding, ding* Correct. The family truckster was based on a Country Squire. There are pics in another thread of mine...I had an 87 sedan previously that ran 14.80's with a f'd up frame (wouldn't launch well)and a 250K stock shortblock with all stock mustang parts, H/C/I. It was an awesome sleeper.

Well as I am not so knowledgeable as everyone here i shall start my list. Well I started off by doing some exterior mods and thhen the suspension. I have Espelir springs and Tokico HP's. I also got a set of 17 in rims to go along with the setup. Then I decided to get an exhaust. So now I have a Megan Racing catback. While i was installing with a friend we took most of the stock plastic intake off so now its just the air filter back for an intake. Now in the mail I have a MAM catted mid pipe comming in tomorrow, a MSP shift knob on wed, and a OBX header for hopefully later on this week. I also have a front manual AWR motor mount just sitting to be installed as well as a hood prop kit. That is all I have done for now as far as n/a and i am unsure where to go next with the car. I am thinking of getting a K&N typhoon intake but besides that I am stuck. Any advice would be nice. I am thinking of possibly getting a cf hood as a next mod but I am unsure. I am also considering powdercoating the headers white to give my black p5 with white rims more of a white theme but i dont know really. any ideas?

Intake is def your best bet for your next mod. After that, you're limited on performance mods. You can do the simple ones - tb bypass, tb spacer, VTCS removal (or is it VICS, I can never remember), IM spacer, port and polish IM. Then you are at internal engine mods, or EMS. Both fairly expensive.

what do you think about bumping up compression? how do you feel about that and how do ou engines handle that? i know it will make the life span less but it will last some years right?

Nice rims on your wagon. They resemble the American Racing TT IIs that I want for my Camaro.

long live station wagons! :)

I moved to the darkside. Found a cheap Spool stage 1 kit. Getting here at the end of the week :)

Boooo!! You are hereforth banned from the n/a section Funky.

:)

haha, just kidding. I hate to see you go to the darkside, but its inevitable that we lose some people. These cars just dont like to go fast n/a. They need a good swift kick in the ass.

Im not giving up, but I dont blame you for saving your money. I dont even have my engine in my car, and I have already spent about 6k on it (not counting my other mods).

Good luck!

Im going for 11:1 with my build. Installshield is going 13:1. Which is what the Tri-Point cars were. But I dont think anyone really knows how well these engines will hold up to high compression over the long term. With a good tune and good gas, I think it will last for a while. Ask me again in a year, and I'll have a better answer. Hopefully.

See signature. I'm getting blown.

Tequila? Is like beer. [/3 amigos mexican guy]
WOMP? Is like N/A. [/me]

Damn, we're dropping like flies around here. :)

Good luck and keep us posted.

The wheels are Mustang Bullitts, part of Ford's retro designs. I love 'em.

VTCS removal is a great thing!!!! No downside to it. My car has a little hesistation when driven right after startup when cold, which is bad to do and I rarely do that. Also ca nget in there and check to see if the VICS screws are loose. Best HP mod I've done so far!

When David was inquiring how everyone's NA build was going, I believe he was refering to the regular, ie serious builders. This list includes Jamie, Kyle, Eddie, Andrew, as well as David and I. Kevin, Glen(not any more..traitor. lol), Chris, Jeff(also gone darkside), Justin and Bill are all serious bolt-on guys too.

No offense to anyone left out, but 'putting gas in and going' is not the Status of an NA build.....

...once again, I'm not trying to leave anyone out. I want as many guys getting serious about NA as possible, but don't kid yourself into thinking you're an NA tuner just because you have a couple bolt-ons..lol :P

(jerkit)

Guess I'm just not "serious" enough as an N/A guy.

Next year will be focused on the brakes/rollers as my sig state.

After that, the great part: Custom cams with cam gears (probably Twilight spec's) , JDM 10.4:1 pistons, engine management (again probably Twilight LT-8). If money permit, Mazdaspeed Proteg clutch (cheap) and LSD (cheap again) and a Fidanza flywheel.

I should be able to break the 170 crank-hp barrier on a stock head (no p/p), no?

I have this nagging question about putting a built probe V6 on a stand-alone in the DX. Maybe in a couple years when I have a daily.

My good friend in the Toronto Protege Club just put a K8(1.8 from the MX-3) in his 1993 Protege GT. Mazda V-6s are the best sounding V-6s this side of VR6s, and they rev like a rotary. Anyways, once he gets his cooling issues sorted out, he's dropping in the KL-ZE.

A K-V6 would be sweet in a 3rd Gen...

You know..it's just inevitable now. 1500 for some quick 160whp or another $4000+ for 160whp. I was really contemplating doing some serious mechanical tuning..but it's not worth the price/power ratio. Was even keeping track of the junkyards around here to see who had written off a protege w/ 2.0L FSDE so I can actually build it.

I'm pretty much done with mine. Did the VTCS removal and am very happy with the performance now. I just need to do something about the oiling system.

But I'm also building another N/A motor that should be around 300HP. 96 Explorer motor, new factory assembly line motor. The explorer motors are nice because they have cast iron GT-40 heads (better flow and slightly larger valves), and a GT-40/Cobra style intake manifold. I'm putting in a larger cam and heavier valvesprings and putting it in the Country Squire. That car is getting the motor, gears and LSD, suspension upgrades, BBK, exhaust, regeared automatic transmission, stall converter....etc...it's the weekend car. Waiting for a few parts to come in. I've spent 4700 bucks in the last month, about 200 bucks a day on that car. (including buying it) It's awesome.

Thats cool to see someone with a mustang also.I got one too and when I'm not messing with my 96 escort gt,I spend money on that.I got a 89 5.0 coupe it puts down 353 hp on motor and over 500 hp with both stages of nitrous.I got trick flow heads,Holley systemax intake and 75mm TB,with 80mm MAF........Unfortunately I went out and got another money pit a srt4........ISo I'm going to be building that up also, looking to put 270 hp to the wheels ,stock motor.............sorry for the thread jack.

Yeah I have not been around a lot either...not for any reason other than work and being outside all the time...

I really have stopped putting a date on when I will finally get a standalone...I have mostly been in the engine management section lately, just reading...and I think I too will go with a microtech from turf...it appears to offer everything the link does, with some more features, for about the same price...

either way...the problem has been occuring with a local ducati dealership...they have a Monster 620 dark still from 05...and they are only asking 5 grand for it...so I am a bit torn for a while...its a perfect bike for me because I don't want a hellishly fast crotch rocket, but I don't want a cruiser either...and that 620 is a lot slower than a triumph speed triple...If I buy it, it won't have the standalone until fall probably (I would use the standalone savings on a down payment)...but if I don't buy the bike, I hope to have the standalone in august...
