Starter spins, but won't engage after engine overheat

Hello, title^
My car has a recent and until now, small overheating problem. I bought it used for 2k€ a couple months ago and it hasn't let me down, until I took a little road trip to the countryside.
I had topped up the coolant yesterday thinking that was the cause for the overheat warning light (only started overheating friday).
I had the blower on so when I started smelling an odd stench I rolled down the window and heard a sort of clicking sound, quickly pulled over and turned off the engine, a liquid that had spilled on the alternator and on the parts behind it began smoking/evaporating.

Now that the car is in my garage w/ pit (thank you grandpa, you glorious bastard) after an expensive evac, the starter spins up, but won't engage the engine. I'm doing this on my lonesome and for as cheap as I can so any tips on debugging are thanked for in advance!

Also: any ideas on the overheating? The radiator fan spins and I'm sure but not certain the coolant is circulating, if it's any help; the warning light was flashing for a bit before staying on and the blinks came slower and shorter when I sped up.

I will now try to remove the intake manufold to find the leank and what spilled, I pray I didn't blow a headgasket, the oil is clean when I checked, coolant hopefully - a loose pipe. Mayhaps.

I'm afraid you blew the head gasket... expensive lesson for you for ignoring the overheat warning light / not getting it properly checked

you can confirm this by checking the compression

seems to me your best bet is to take it to a shop to have them diagnose/repair it
