Stalling: HUGE Safety Concern

you're damn right its in a completely different league..i'm genuinely concerned...we need to figure out if we can duplicate this problem regularly so that we can show the dealers and test to see if thy fixed it or not...all i can say is that it has happened to me twice and both times i had driven it pretty hard and then shortly thereafter, it would stall. No.5, Ill let you know what happens when i go to the dealership, and I'll try andset up a poll here to figure out just how many people have this.....

A warning to every MSP owner! Be careful when you drive, this problem may not be happening to you now, but it may in the future, dont let anybody ride up on your a$$ cuz if you stall, for sure theyll run into you!

Time to go ride in my stalling deathtrap! :)

I haven't been able to duplicate it, and that's a bit of an issue in itself for servicing. Damn, it's stalled on me when I'm driving at normal speeds and not pushing the car to ANY extreme.

As much as I enjoy the car, I don't TRUST driving it due to this issue. And like anything in life, once the trust is broken, it's very hard to get it back. Even after I get a re-flash (when-ever that will be), I still won't trust the car for weeks, or even months after.

People may perceive me to be whinning or complaining, but honestly I'm not. When safety could be jeopardized, any person in their right mind would be concerned.

TRUE!

I hope my s*** doesn't start doing that.

Mazda needs to give us a revamped engine with low compression pistons, 15psi of boost, an ECU that does what it should do, and a big apology!

I'm in the same boat as you guys are, I mean this is serious. I too have lost my confidence in the MSP. Unless they have a guarunteed fix for it, I dont know what to do. I guess I'tt be more of a thrill when I drive my car now, cuz I'll never know when I'll crash or not :)

DO you guys thnk that this is cause for the "Lemon Law" if it doesn't get fixed soon?

I don't think it would be warrented as a Lemon because Lemons are cars that break so many times within a certain amount of times. Each time being a diffrent case.

But I do believe that this should be a major recall. Hell even sentras are getting recalled on stuff like pre-cats burning up (causing bad smells, and fumes) and We got a pin on our exhaust that'll be removed as well because it COULD blow up.

I know though if I see No. 5 or anyone else in winnipeg on the road with a MSP, I'll besure to give LOTS of clearence.

But what exactly happens, like does it stall like a normal stall, which brings you to an abrupt halt, or is it just the engine shutting down, and everything shutting down, and you slowly slow down?

it stalls like you just yanked the key out of the ignition while you are driving.

i think a recall is out of the question though, if its like what ed norton said in fight club..about how they asses whether its cheaper to pay the families of the people who died in the car accident or to recall them all.

BTW I will be checking in with the service dept. at the dealership on saturday, cuz too much stuff has come up at work for me to take anytime off..I hope I'll still be alive by then...

Also, does anyone know who or how to contact at mazda corporation to discuss these issues?

Hmm, I hope your not right in your thinking

I just sent off a lengthy letter-email to my service manager (who inturn hopefully sends it to the Regional Rep). I've asked the Service manager to send me the Reg.Rep's contact #.

I refuse to drive this car. Waiting until Mazda has completed writing and tested an updated computer program is unfortunately not acceptable given the worst case scenario. Either I get a curtosy car until the fix is on my car, or they can take back the MSP.

Waiting to hear back as to how the delearship will handle this issue....I'll keep you all posted.

i appreciate that No.5...

I'll keep you and everyone else at the forum posted on what happens from my end. IMO I think this car right now is a deathtrap waiting to happen until this is fixed...they better fix this soon, or else we will be hearing someone on this forum has gotten seriously injured cuz of it.

Whats up w/ Mazda? They have to know about this and I hope they are working as hard as they can to get this corrected as soon as possible. :wtf:

They spent enough to promote the crap out of this car, now they should put forth the same effort to correct these problems.

The funny thing is that despite all this crap, I still love my ride..

Don't get me wrong, it's been the best handling car I've ever owned. But ALL of the problems I've had with it far out weigh the "Zoom-Zoom-Fun-To-Drive-Factor".

true that No.5 , I love the car, but i hate worrying about it, I just wish we could consistently duplicate the problem to show the dealers what we mean. But saturday is tomorrow, so ill be at the dealer tomorrow, and hopefully they will give me some answer to this, at least an aknowledgment from Mazda that there is a problem and that they are fixing it. I'll let you guys know just as soon as i find out!

I will be in contact with the Manager of Mazda's Information Centre Consultants this afternoon (in Canada).

Man, that is scarey s***. Imagine, high speed, freeway, highway whatever, have to make emergency manuevers, and poof....engine dies.

Or, it could even happen slowly....small kid jumps out in front of you, you loose power brakes, steering.....kid dies.

Or even silly things like stopping at a stop sign or light, and she dies.....no power brakes...you die from car running into you.... what if it's raining, snowing?

There is NO way in hell someone can try to say that this is not an huge safety concern.

Exactly my point newf. Extactly my point.

Manager dude was supposed to call me back in 5 minutes...that was over 40 minutes ago. I'm in a holding pattern to hear what he says.

And, also if the car is in gear and it stalls, can you image the engine stress when it starts to screetch to a halt; plus the wear on the tires. Would this type of engine duress be covered under warranty?.

Just got off the phone with Mazda Canada. Unfortunatley I didn't speak to the manager since he was "always occupied" when I called. The person I did speak to said that an "investigation is underway", and I'll probably won't hear anything until Tuesday/Wednesday of next week; it's a long upcoming weekend here in Canada.

I don't wish to make public the entire conversation content, but needless to say I made my point re: safety. Whether it's going to be fully absorbed at the other end, remains to be seen.

So, yippy, a long weekend with an UNSAFE car until Mazda can figure out what's going on.

I encourage everyone who's encountered stalling with their car, to contact their Regional Reps/Dealership GM and make the issue known.

I can't help to feel like this is a start to YET another compaign; the first one ofocourse being the Clunk, which still hasn't seen a permanent fix.

You guys telling me you can't drive a car without power steering or power brakes? What is your problem? I'm not trying to knock anyone here, but my FB didn't have power steering...and the brake booster line came off every once and a while. It wasn't a problem for me.

And your occupation is a "Problem-Resolution Analyst "?

Are you that naive?
