sry bout this, SRT-4 engine vs. MSP engine

:
2010 Subaru Legacy GT
well i did some calculations after looking at the SRT-4 with a friend of mine who is looking for a car. we wanted to find out the power per L of each car. well the srt outputs 215 horse and the msp 170. srt with 2.4l and a reported 14lb of boost (goin off a prev. thread which i nvr read so this isn't accurate someone correct this). msp with 2.0l and 7lb of boost. if we were to divide the hp with the Literage of the engine, the srt would be 89.9 (bar over the 9) hp per liter, and the msp would get 85 hp per liter. thats 53.75 hp per cylinder on the srt and 42.5 hp per cylinder on the msp. these numbers are just rough and DO NOT take into account that both cars are boosted. i was thinking, well the srt uses a mitsu turbo and a 2.4l engine, why are my numbers between the 2 cars soo close. the srt should be able to output A LOT more than the msp. imo, the engine potential in the msp is a whole lot greater than that of the 2.4 turbo charged engine of the neon. i was thinking that if the neon had a 2.0 instead of the 2.4, we would be running the same hp. now i am kinda a newb at the whole engine/forced induction thing (i'm an audio guy at heart), so if i am wrong please correct me. i just wanted to let ppl know about my findings. this is for Greg "I Love My MAZDASPEED!"

There is a world of diffrence between the 2. The SRT-4 has all forged pistons and beafed up internals. The mazdaspeed protege has stock internals with a turbo bolted on. The SRT-4 is good for another 300 HP(per mopar's stage 3 kits). While the MSpro is maxed out at 170 hp. That being said the SRT-4 has some serious cheap materials.

You are wrong. :) As smolten said, the SRT-4 engine is built for boost. It also has the displacement advantage. There is no replacement for displacement. :D
The SRT-4 puts out way more then the claimed 215 hp. It puts out more then that to the wheels from what I have so far seen, thats a good 50+ whp advantage for the Neon. But in the end, its a hot rod econo-box, one with the poorest build quality and reliability in it's respected class.

yeah the interior sucks and it has a cheap feel. but with some forged SRP pistons and rods, the msp could be as fast. although you would have to rework the tranny.

neon is a neon and its got a happy face no matter what body kit you put on and it still looks ugly. you can put 500 hp in a geo metro you think anyone will buy it??? think about it. if youre buying a car strictly for power you should be hit on the back of the head.

AGAIN.....the 2nd gen Neon build quality and reliability is rated as high as the Protege. Oh, and the MSP is also a hot rod econobox!:p
I love the interior "feel" comments. That fancy silver coloured trim in your car is still painted plastic.

Acctually the interior of the neon isn't bad...but it's true the engine is just damn...still it's no compitition for an SR20DET...but damn...

there was a place ran the neon stock 13.5 for the 1/4 I'll try to find where I saw that time but I was like ddddddddddddaaaaaaammmmmmmnnnnn!

Interior cheap?

How is the interior of the SRT-4 cheap? I just saw one (D stock) racing at our local autocross event Saturday. Sat inside for a quick look and if those seats are considered, "CHEAP", then I think the MP3/Mazdaspeed seats should be in the "WORTHLESS" catagory. I asked the owner (young driver in his late 40's or early 50's :D) if those were stock seats and he said yes. It had leather trim on cloth seats and the lumbar support is as good as the seats you will find in a Prelude. The shift knob was modern round ball style, very techno. So, I know it is a Neon and all that but I just don't understand how you come up with the interior being cheap....it has unique shifter knob, pedals, fancy dash gauges, and a okay looking head unit (I didn't pay attention to that, actually). I think the front driver and passenger seats puts MP3/Mazdaspeed seats to shame easily. (scratch)

Although, it did not really out perform the Mazda MP3 on the same design course Saturday (both achieved 57 seconds...raw times... my car got around ... 57.2 vs SRT-4's 57.4 sec or 57.8 sec from what I could remember.... will be able to confirm in a few days after results are posted online). I wasn't the driver (asked a badass autocross driver to make the MP3 look good on the course :D) with the good timing, but I feel better knowing that with a good driver my car can be in the top 3 any day of the week at the autocross course in the STS class.

Right now our STS class is being owned by modified 2002 Si and GS-R for the top two spots..... :o

Both cars (MP3 and SRT-4) are virtually stock (obviously mine has intake and SS... but honestly, those two mods do jack for autocross performance).

all those cars are grocery getters. sentra, civic, protege, neon.

Anyway i maybe wrong but i never sat in the neon yet but the protege is for skinny people. and the neon i think is for big fat guys. lemme know if someone sat in one and agrees. a ball style knob is crap i like the sparco one i have. the evo 8 has a cheap ball shift knob also. actually the neon interior is made of plastic like the protege but its the texture and way its designed makes it look cheap. For example all mustangs and f bodies. i hate their interior. and the protege has alcantra suede on the seats and the door panels. i dont know what the neon has but the protege interior is nicely done except for the sun visors cheap vinyl and the door lock knobs which have been in use since the 80s. either way neon is a neon and it still looks ugly IMO and its made strictly for power not all around street car.

I've sat in the SRT-4 and the is sufficient room in the seats. If you're a big fella, you should probably stay clear of compact cars. I've also sat in the EVO 8 and the dash is too plain for me. It's still dope, don't get me wrong, but the seats are pretty much the highlight of the interior. I think my favorite interior is probably a tie between the 350Z and the IS300. I'm more partial to the Z because it has better seats.

So if you have never driven one, or even sat in one....then how can you hate on it and know waht you are talking about?

uhh well, the seats of the neon are engineered from the viper seats. the protege is a whole lot more refined in my eyes. the neon has crank windows and an extreamly small back seat. the shift is a lot of work, even after being broken in. my protege's shift is nice and soft now, not too much work, its actually fun. the neon rims are hardly appealing to me and the front facia is, well, in my eyes, still kinda funny looking. the rear wing looks like a civic ricer wing and really blocks the view from the rear glass. the protege wing is smaller and blocks less. overall, the neon is less ergonomic to me and doesn't have as many creature comforts.
