spring rates

I am getting springs for my Protege 5 and i know that i either want tein, eibach or H&R. I dont want a really low drop because i dont want to curb or become a snow plow in the winter. I do want the tightest or firmest springs out of those 3 does anybody know spring rate and compression on these and can explain to me which ones are the firmest
 
here's what I've read:

Tein - F: 179, R: 145 lb/in

Eibach Pro Kit - F:147-183; R:91-131 (progressive)

H&R - rates not given by H&R (but I'm still looking for these anyway).

Please post the H&R rates if you learn them. I want progressive rate springs so I am trying to decide between Eibach and H&R.
 
Tein has some new springs out that have average spring rates with less of a drop they are the Luxury Master / High Tech series springs. They are a F 1.2 and R 1.1 drop, Spring rates are F162/R129. The Racing Beats for the Protege 5 would be the least drop at .75 and probally a comparable spring rate to all the rest. Also to make it feel tighter perhaps changing your strut to the new Tokico Adjustable Illuminias may help also for the firmest ride. PM for pricing if interested no deposit required.
 
Hmm I hadn't heard about the new Tein springs. Sounds likr a drop between Eibach and RB but stiffer. Might consider those. Who sells them???
 
for people that have springs can you notice an immediate difference in the handling of the car like cornerning etc.. or is there not really any difference
 
i have eibachs and i like them. still a great ride, only slightly harder than stock, but cornering is great. that's what you get with progressive rate springs

that's what you'd think but most people report that Teins are SOFTER than MP3/MSP springs and softer then Eibach and H&R so go figure
 
yea i think im just going to go with the eibach pro kit, thanks guys for all the input now how much should i pay for a place to install them

that is definitely the most popular choice of the members of this board. I am trying to decide between the Eibach and the H&Rs myself.
 
I have a question...I am thinking about getting the Tein springs, i was wondering if this is going to hurt my stock suspension in any way... i know i wont get the full effect with just the springs but i just want them for looks! If i do have them put on will it ware my shocks any faster or anything?????

it will wear your shocks faster, but a way to get around that (and also get the most out of the springs) is to get them revalved to suit the spring rate of the teins.
 
Shops usualy charge 200 - 350 to install springs . Which is a rip off if you know someone that is moderatley comfortable around cars because it's not tough just takes a while.

A couple guys from my local club are putting them in.. when we do i'll post a how to :)

btw, one of the guys already did his.. didn't take long at all :)
 
I agree with Niv, don't pay to get your springs put in. No special tools needed (not even a spring compressor) and the whole thing, start to finish, takes under two hours.
 
I have no problem putting them in...but i was not sure about the effects the springs would have on the shocks....can yo explain what you mean when you say getting the shocks revalved. sorry i dont have a real good understanding of suspension components and such... im more of a engine kind of man...lol
 
getting the shocks revalved just means they move slower or quicker up and down. if you have springs that are hard then the shock is going to be moving quicker than it was intending to be. same with the opposite.

revalving the shocks just allows the shock to work as intended with the appropriate spring and spring rate. most suspension workshops can do this work
 
TIPS on PRO-KIT install

What do you mean you don't need a spring compressor? Did you just put your sup on a lift and then pull them out?

I'm installing my Pro-Kit's on Friday and I'm going to do it in my garage w/ 2 jacks and a loaner set of spring compressors from AutoZone. Any tips?
