A friend of mine has been looking for a fun daily driver for a while now. I brought up the MSP without been too serious about it and after a few weeks of looking, we found one used at Jay Marks Mazda. We call them and the guy says it's in great shape, was a lease car and are motivated to sell it. We head over to the dealership and don't tell them who we are and they want $17,000 for it. Keep in mind it is a USED car with 11,000 miles on it. I laughed at the salesman and said they are cheaper than that brand new. He mumbled something about it being a rare car but i didn't hear it as I was too busy laughing.
We get back to my friend's office and give the sales manager a call to express our disgust with their pricing and the guy suggests we come back over. The price dropped to $14,500 with just one phone call. At this point I was thinking "Wow, I might trade in my P5!" We get back and it turns out it was the same salesman we had spoken to before. What a rat bastard. We start looking the car over, there were heavy grooves in the rear discs, a few door dings and the car had been smoked in. I sit in it and notice there are holes where someone mounted a boost guage pilar on the drivers side.
I popped the hood and noticed the front part of the intake is gone and there are quite a few exposed wires laying around. The power mirrors, stereo and AC did not work. The clutch was limp and the tranny almost didn't go into reverse. As I took it out to the feeder road I laid into the gas and...not much happened. The boost was only noticeable after 5500-6000rpm. Before that, it was rather boggy. Once in boost, there was audible detonation. The steering alignment was off and the tranny was very "crunchy." I didn't even want to finish the test drive and only drove the car so I could get back to mine. I talked to the head sales guy in his office afterward and listed the serious mechanical problems my non-ASE brain could find in a 5 minute test drive.
The sales guy came clean and said the car was modded by some stupid kid and he blew the motor and it was replaced. He admited the car still needed work. When i asked him why they had it on the ramp in front of the dealership ready for sale he had no answer. So anyone that runs accross this MSP, DON'T BUY IT! It's a huge peice of s*** and am very dissapointed in Mazda, with only 11,000 miles it was already in need of serious work. What I really want to know is, who is the stupid motherfucker who owned this car before? Do you know anything about cars at all? Do you know what ignition timing, a/f or boost is besides something that makes a guage peg out on your cool guage pod? You ruined a really interesting, limited production car, you're a ******* moron.
