Speedometer no good after clutch replace

Hey all. I've got a 2000 Protege with the 1.6. Hope this is the best place to post this issue. The car's been great too me. Just this weekend, my neighbor and I changed out the clutch, CV axles, struts, rotors and calipers. When we put my clutch back in though, everything worked great except for my speedometer/odo. The mileage shows up, but doesn't change. We detached and reattached the cable, all looks good and feels tight. Any ideas? Thanks for the help.

check the wires for any marks and make sure it didnt get stretched or broken. Also, did you hit the speedo sensor on anything while moving the transmission. If you find that it is the sensor I believe I still have one sitting in my old 1.6l tranny.

Wouldn't there be a CEL on for a damaged speedo sensor?

Thanks for the quick replies. No CEL light as of yet. It was on b/c of my cat, but it hasn't turned back on yet. The light does work though, as it comes on when I start the car. As for the sensor, it looks fine. I may go by a junk yard and get the sensor and the wire. But it all appears fine to me though. Using my GPS for a speedometer sucks.

is that something that OBD checks for? I am unsure

edit: nevermind just looked it up and there is a code for the VSS

Heck. We may still just hook it up. My neighbor had a snap on scan pro and i guess it can't hurt. If I were to check the voltage, would I check it at the end that comes out of the transmission or the end on the top side of the engine?
