Hey guys, for some reason, i find my speed 6 eating up way more gas then any other car. I put it up against my familys cars and my car eats up gas faster then all theirs. Just saurday I drove about 70 miles and the car ate up about half a tank. Is anyone else noticing that the car loves gas?

ease up on that right foot and youll find better gas mileage...
im averagin 20 miles per gallon under normal driving condition... boost.. traffic.. highway..etc..

wow...70 miles on half tank ??? That's nasty mileage

I get about 200 - 220 miles when the needle reaches half....but 70% highway driving...usually if i'm heavy footed i get bout 170miles half tank (rough estimates)

air filter clogged up maybe? just a thought

I don't drive too conservatively and I went 360 miles on my last tank (about 22.5 miles per gallon.) That's on 91 octane gas since they don't have 93 octane here in AZ.

Try this: Go to the gas station and really fill it up. If the thing clicks off, hold the handle until it clicks off again. This will help to ensure the tank is full, and that the pump didnt turn off thinking it was full.

Then go to the same gas station the next time you are at 1/2 tank. If it takes 8-10 gallons, and you travelled less than 100 miles, your car is messed up somehow (gas tank puncture, really rich mixture, lots of reasons).

But, if it only takes 3-4 gallons, then its the sending unit on the gas tank which is messing up.

Personally, I do about 25% highway driving and 75% "city/surburban" driving - and I average 23 mpg and about 350 miles per tank. There is something seriously wrong with your car if you get 70 miles per half tank.

I got 32 once on a 300 mile trip from my house to boston ... cruise control on 72 the whole way, windows up, AUTO air conditioning set at 68. I was quite proud of the MS6. Thats almost as good as a civic I had (36 mpg on the same trip) - And the civic was 1000 lbs lighter, had .7 liters less displacement, and only had 125 hp.

Good to know. Sounds like 72 is the magic number combined with cruise control for consistent fuel delivery.

I made a 600 mile trip this weekend, and I was getting about 29 mpg.

I agree with the other post about monitoring HOW MUCH gasoline it takes to refuel the tank.

If there is a leak, I would imagine a gasoline smell would be present.

Same Here TX. Mine averages at 18mpg. almost 100% city driving. Did a 150 mile highway trip and that got me 21mpg. Looking into getting a Bike for the city and only using the car on longer or multi person trips. I'm paying way to much on gas right now.

17 MPG for me and i'm 100% city driving. i don't drive it very much at all as i usually only get gas once every week to week and a half.

however, i was pleasantly surprised when i drove it hard during a drive back in April and still got around 21 MPG for the combined highway/backroads drive. :D

Winter, 100% city driving, about 17mpg-19....and I like to play in snow :)
Summer, 100% city driving - 19-21

Never driven a full tank worth of gas on the highway.

70 miles on half a tank? I've gotten 170 miles on half a tank (that was a damn day trip I traveled about 85 miles north and then back home doing about 90 mph both ways)

I drive like a granny in the city and shift before 3k rpm.... so i'm actually getting like 22/23 mpg in the city now, but once I get on the highway I'm in a hurry so I'm doing like 90 and i get probably 24/25mpg (not sure).... but if i'm doing like 70 mph i'll get significantly better mileage (up closer to 29/30 mph)

are you stock or modded? maybe one of your mods didn't agree with your ecu

True......... or perhaps he added a mod (like CAI?) but didn't disconnect the battery to "Reset" it so it can relearn the fuel mapping?

I am modded, I have AEM intake and ATP downpipe. Do i have to reset my battery???

When you installed your CAI and your downpipe....... did you disconnect your battery while doing it, or have you SINCE your installs, disconnected your battery for like 5 minutes and then reconnected them ?

Nope, i dont think I have..(silly)

Also, a quick way to do the discharge (after disconnecting the battery) is to turn the key to ON, then step on the brakes for a few seconds. Not sure how well it applies to these cars, but it has worked on older (90's) cars for me. Just a way to take the guesswork out of "Did I wait long enough?"
