Special Service Program A4 - Steering Wheel Core Cover

:
2013 Mazda CX-5 GT
Build date 12/2011 - 12/2012 apparently your finger could get caught on a sharp edge on the backside of the steering cover. Mazda will repair/replace at the dealership.

I got that notice too. A bit odd I thought, particularly since I've never noticed anything remotely like that on my car.

I received the same notice in the mail yesterday and inspected the situation. Mazda is being very proactive here on an issue that is very minor. Using all the imagination I could muster, I think they are concerned a fingernail could get caught in the small gap/crack that is on the backside of the steering wheel at 6 o'clock. I think this might be possible with long fingernails that were trimmed in a suitable shape to bind in that crack. In that case you could perhaps break a nail and crash your car. Possible? Perhaps. Am I concerned? No. My finger nails are never long enough to have an issue.

Yeah, same here. I ran my hand over the back and it feels fine. Even if it didn't, the bulletin is so the service center can shave down the sharp edge...not replace. If I took it to my dealership for this service, there would be nothing left.

Indeed. Mazda's proactive approach is why I bought the car. :)

I wonder if I fall into this. I can't go check the build date on my B pillar right now but I bought my 2014 CX-5 in late February of 2013, so there's a possibility it could be made in December. That would be awesome because I've had a scratch on my airbag cover that I would love to get fixed. Oddly enough, I haven't gotten anything in the mail yet for the recall notice for the fuel line either, so maybe my information never got passed on.
