Had a driver side speaker issue this weekend. The door speaker started to rattle when listening to music. I took the door apart to look at the speaker. It was not loose, so I took it out of the door to look at it.
Problem 1: The door has no vapor barrier ('07), hence when the window goes inside the door, if there is any moisture, the backside of the speaker is exposed to moisture. My VW had a plastic vapor barrier to protect the back side of the speakers in the door.
Problem 2: The paper back of the speaker had moisture warping. I had to open the cloth off the front of the speaker and super glue in a spacer to stop the cone from hitting the front of the magnet.
