First, check all the fuses oriented with the interior of the car if the radio doesn't turn on at all. If none are blown, try replacing the rear speakers also. It may be a system where if one doesn't work, they all don't work. This happened in an early 80's car I worked on back then. It doesn't seem likely the Protege would be like that but it can't hurt to check. You're going to have to replace the bad rear ones anyway. Make sure you didn't mistakenly put the radio on mute in the rush to turn it off when it blasted sound out loud. I really hope the radio didn't sustain damage but it's not entirely impossible. I've had both home and car stereos tha turned on yet the output circuits were fried so no sound came out. Is it a cheapo no-name radio?
