Spare Tire Release Socket

I drive a 08 CX 9 GT edition, I recently got a flat tire and when I went to change the flat to my dismay I realized that the spare tire release socket was not in the vehicle, This was the first time I had gotten a flat so I did not know the vehicles did not come with the socket, I had to have the car towed to a shop and they put on a new tire so I did not need to get at the spare. Going forward does anyone know where I can get this socket, the dealer said they do not carry them. If anyone can help it will be truly be appreciated

I don't see how, if you bought the car new, that it didn't come with the socket. I have a '12, which came with a socket. Have you tried an auto parts store? Or tire shop or auto repair shop? Maybe a junkyard? Maybe eBay--it doesn't have to be Mazda specific--it just needs to be the right size for the bolt.

Just out of curiosity I went out to my CX-9 with my hundreds of sockets and none of them worked.
Only the one that came with the car works with it.

The OEM part# for this is TD13-69-6A3 and is $45.64 from Jim Ellis Mazda Parts.

Pricey!!!

On ebay for about the same price.

The tire shop i went to when they fixed my flat was able to use their socket. How is it that none of those sockets fit?

Once again a million thanks, Who k now a car manufacturer could find a way to mark up a simple socket and turn a nice profit on a $3 part

people, they use metric in Japan. The CX-9 uses 19mm socket. if you have all SAE tools you won't have anything that fits! The world does not revolve around ancient imperial units.

His post makes sense if the 19mm socket fits the spare tire lowering device. I doubt seriously Mazda has tried to trick anyone, they just used a metric nut. I presume all cars sold in the US have SAE wheel lugs just for convenience but that does not mean Mazda couldn't have used a 19mm nut on the spare crank.

My 96 windstar had 19mm metric lug nuts. I am guessing that the american car makers are starting to use metric as well.

Uh bro did you post on the wrong thread? Your post doesn't make sense.

I have a 2010, all the nuts and bolts are in metric. 19mm is the lug nut size my friend. The car was built in Japan, why on earth would they use SAE.

I believe the spare tire release is actually pentagon shaped, hence why a special socket is required and a hex socket won't work. The actual lug nuts are 21mm, just to confirm, but the actual item brought up by the OP is the socket used in conjunction with special rods to lower the spare tire from its well.

yeah, you are correct. the pentagon socket is needed for the spare tire release and it is not a cheap piece of hardware to lose.
