I'm going to try and quite down the road nosie in the P5. Anyone recomend a sound damping material or spray on to use? I was thinking of just going to ziebart and having them do the rustproofing, since that allways quites trucks down when i get them done, but it's too much moola.

Tips, ideas, etc.? I tried to search for some tips on here, but came up empty handed.

I'd figure I'd start in the hatch area, and wheel wells and go from there.

Thanks!

astral and I got this stuff from ED that we painted in our trunks to eliminate vibrations and ratles. stuff works like dynamat but goes on easier. did a pretty good job with eliminating rattle along with ome exhaust noise......

believe if you put it inside all your doors, in your trunk, and under the rugs in your interior (huge job), it will quiet your ride. just turn up your radio and that solves your problem or get an aftermarket exhaust.....

I really cheap alternative to dynamat is roofing barrier. Go to menards or home depot, see if they sell it, get the non-traction stuff, just the smooth rubber on both sides. Basically the same stuff, just put 2 layers on with some foil in between or something to get the same effect.

this will work......

that stuff adds mass whichis good because it keeps panel vibration down, but if you really wanna lower your in-cabin sound, Carpet padding is by far the way to go. it's cheap (2-cars worth cost me $25) and doens't weigh toomuch. 2layers under-floor has proved to drop 6-9db of roadnoise. My girlfriend and I did it to our cars, and now riding in anyone else'e is annoying. I especially recommend getting over your wheelwells.

And the how-to (it's done in a 2gen but it's the same process)

I do also recommend skinning your doors with brownbread, or raammat or whatever dynomat alternative you can find. Also getting inside of them is a very good idea if you're going to be runnign a stereo with any kind of power. http://www.msprotege.com/vbb225/showthread.php?t=67844&highlight=door+edead That blue stuff's the paint-on stuff mentioned earlier. After using alot of it I've prettymuch deeemed it not worthwhile.. it would be just as easy to get small-cut pieces of mat-deadener in there and much less messy. Not to mention a gallon of that crap runs like $50... eek. definately not as much coverage as $50 of mat deadener.

You can buy a can of rubberrized undercar spray for around $3-4 a can. I did the whole hatch area, minus the roof and door, on my P5 with one can and it is much quieter. I am going to do atleast 1 more can just for good measure.

I did this same process on my Del Sol. I did the whole interior, doors, and the trunk area and it was much quieter.

It might not be as effective as Dynamat ( put what ever brand you want there ) but I feel that for what you spend on a can, you definitely get good results. Plus it is easy to put on.

The only downside is that it takes alittle while to dry and you're car will smell for a few days afterwards but nothing some airfreshners can't fix..

the only thing that worries me with cotton batting isthat it's absorbent, and won't repel water. sorta the same reason for hte synthetic yarn-based hartex padding. normal carpet padding will soak in water and hold it which is bad for a car's interior. Additionally I'd make sure not to cover over and drain-holes that are already inplace. you want your interior to be able to "breathe" soasto avoid mildew, stagnnt air, and fogging, etc.

Mine might be synthetic, I'm not a fabric expert. It's been in the car all year, and I haven't had any problems so far. I put some of this in my dads car last year when I was visiting. He hasn't had any problems either.

To bring a dead thread back to life, the protegeclub link doesn't work, have any kind of other how to showing hartex being used? If I chose to actualy use dynamat, how much woudl it cost to do an entire car? I mean floors, doors, trunk ? p5

Seconded. This interests me as my next mod, and a How-To would be great...
