Dear Mazda Lovers,

I am once again in need of expert advise from my Mazda friends. I recently purchased another P5 but, failed to notice that the Engine Wire Harness has been worked on (not in the best of ways), so I am looking to replace it with one from my local junk yard. Does anyone have a diagram or is there a step by step on how to swap a wire harness? I will really appreciate your help

Unplug and re-plug in...in all honesty that is about it...there are so many clips that are held on by clips and such that it is quite hard to just describe...however it will help by removing the Intake Manifold although not entirely at all necessarily...

On a scale from 1 to 10, how difficult would you rate it? and will the harness go through the firewall into the CPU or can I unplug a section before the firewall and just plug in the new one?

It is quite difficult to chance the entire harness honestly...but can be done...without having it in front of me I am just going off memory, but I do believe you can unplug it at the firewall in the car...behind the dash...

Ok, thanks if by any chance you come across a how to or a diagram please PM me. Thanks for your help.

there is a factory diagram available through www.shopkey5.com , it shows all connector views and placements. you have to subscribe though, or work at a shop that does. If I were you, i go to the bone yard and find a car that isn't ripped to shreds and just go at it! start unplugging everything starting at the top, (MAF, IAT) then to cam sensor and injectors all the emissions then transmission etc. The PCM is located under the front passenger side floor below rug. You are going to have to remove dash and unplug all components etc.. Its going to bea PITA!
Why can't you just repair the existing harness with new wires One broken wire at a time??

I was thinking of just bringing all of the connector from the junkyard and just cut and add all of the connectors. My main concern is that the person that had the car did a half ass job with the cam sensor and the coil wiring. Do you know if the harness can be split into sections and just replace the sections that I need or does it come as a hole? I have never worked on an engine wire harness but, if I take on the job I want to do it correctly as I don't want to mess it up even more.

What exactly is wrong with it, and why do you need to replace the whole thing?

I would rather solder new pig tails on every sensor under the hood than replace the whole harness.

I am not to sure the type of cables the last owner used are good for harness purposes. They kind of look like speaker wire to me.

Pictures would help, but if you say that its just the cam sensor and coil wiring thats been messed with, then I suggest you fix the current harness.

Furthermore, You can replace the wire if you don't like it, but I have seen things like solid strand wire and morretts used for automotive wiring harnesses, those are by far worse than using speaker wire.

Oh ok thanks for the advise. I will just cut all of the connector at the junkyard and weld them together.
