2001 mr2 spyder
Hello all,

First time ever posting to this forum. Hopefully I'll get a big "welcome aboard!". I currently drive a 2001 mr2 spyder, but I'm actually trading it in either today or tomorrow on a MSP :) The mrs is a great car and all, but I'm looking for something a little cooler. Which is why I am going with the MSP. To my luck my mom is in partnership with a local MAZDA dealarship so I get a nice deal on this wonderful car. A few questions to begin with (don't flame, I have done my research as far as this board and it's search functionality are concerened.): Q) i've notice a lot of talk about BOV's and BPV's. What I am deffinately looking for is that wonderful "PSSSH" sound :) I understand I am going to need a dual BOV. However, is it going to work okay with stock internals? Or am I going to need anything else to get it working? I'm not worried about the famous gobbler right now either...

Thanks Guys :)

It's a lot easier to install the dual valves if you replace the plastic IC -> TB pipe with a metal one with a flange welded in.

Welcome aboard..be sure to post delivery pics :)

welcome....when you get a chance check out what mach3.5 came up with using stock pipes, its in the forced induction form..or just do a search for it.
you dont need to worry about stock internals when getting the nice blowoff sound.
good luck
and this a great car.

The dual setup is debatable. Some have done it and had it work wonderfully. Others have done a single and gotten it to work. But all have had custom piping I believe.

I'd really love to mess with a MSP and get the BOV to work. I can't imagine it would be that hard.

Here's a link to my sound files. Not a MSP, but a MP3 w/ turbo. So, while some say it is different, it really isn't. Same engine, same configuration, different computer, but the computer has nothing to do with the BOV.

P.S. Welcome to the forum!

whoa whoa whoa... for ur interests... i would recommend FIRST getting the INJEN CAI... itll give you a good amount of extra hp and i bet you'll love the BPV sound once its installed... do that before u drop a ton of $$ in a new BOV setup

don't do it man. keep your Toyota

It's a sad day when I agree with twiztedjeckel, but I must admit I do on this call.

I love my MSP, but you think it's cooler then your mr2 spyder? Damn, if your car had some more hp, I'd almost swap you for it :)

Yeah I'll agree a mr2 spyder is bad ass. But heh, i've had it for almost 3 years now. Time for something new :) Plus it's not very convienent ie: 2 seater, no trunk, looks like a broke porsche. Anyways, I drove the MSP today. All I can say is hell yeah. It's a rush :) And I honestly like it a whole lot better than the spyder. Trust me :) Anyways, time for school...

Hahaha time for school? Dang hope you're in college...if you're in highschool I'm gonna poop on you.

hey man, i don't know how many problems you've had with your MRS but take a look around and do a lil research on people who have had LSD's go out on them, turbo's,engine's,squeaks leaks and creaks. you name it odds are somebody or a group of us have had the same problem. now obviously that's gotta say something right there. somebody's busy getting their dick sucked at Mazda while they're giving the big OK on quality control or something cause this shouldn't be happening.

(fu) wait(scratch) nah screw it(drinks)

i've probably done or said something to piss you off along the way

Yeah I'm a 3rd year college student :) And uhm, twizted.... I don't think this car wil have nearly as many problems as my toyota. I had to have the engine rebuilt 3 times. Had a 3rd cylinder rod bearing blow, MAF got corrupted, exhaust manifold had a leak, not to mention the little peices of the car kept falling apart (that's why my friends dubbed it the almighty "playschool tonka toy"). So if there are any problems with the MSP I'm sure they will be minor in comparison :)

i don't know man. i thought my car was good to go after the new engine and turbo got put in but the car was dropped off last night and supposedly worked on today for a coolant leak and a couple other things and i've yet to hear from them and since its 8:30 i doubt i will but i'm thinking the coolant leak is going to be a little more than just a hose or a clamp. i could be wrong but i'm only thinking no news is bad news.

sounds like you haven't had too much luck with the MRS either. may want to stay away from the 4 cylinders. doesn't sound like they're doing so hot between either of us.

wow, my mom had a 91 MR2 turbo for over 4 years and had not one problem with it. I almost kicked her ass when she sold that car. :)
