Something bad has happened...

My p5 is an 03 I had the same problem called the Stealership and they told me that mine wasent covered in the recall, WTF so it cost me 1200 to get fixed, now I am using 1qt of oil every fill up. gonna wait till spring and tear the top end down, I knew I should have done it my self.

Just talked to Mazda... My car falls just outside of the vin range covered by the recall. I even called Mazda USA's customer assistance, hoping that they could help me out, but I had no such luck. I guess I'll just have to fix it myself.

Jeez that sucks. I hope this doesn't happen to me. I called the local dealer yesterday and they said my '03 has "no open recalls." I'll get no help from them either if mine falls out.

They should be able to tell if the recall has been performed on your car based upon VIN if it's in range & are obliged to do it if they can't prove it has been. There have been cases outside the VIN range & yes pretty much ****** on that.

So, this known issue may occur outside the VIN range, and if it does, no love from Mazda. That makes me feel good. I love their cars, but I really am starting to hate this company.

Yep, they say its perfectly normal for one of their transmissions to grenade after 30K. Happens all the time they said.

It may not be that bad if they don't cover it... if the compression is okay.

Pull the intake mainfold, do the VTCS removal and torque (with red loctite)[tm] the VICS screws.

I would not do it at the dealer if they won't share in the cost!

After a slight delay ( had to order some parts... then sneak it back in for an appointment ), got the work done at the dealer in Middletown - they finished it up on Thursday... new intake manifold and fuel rail, too... and no charge. And the car just turned 79K...
