So how many people have melted bumpers?

it took a car show to realize it, but my stock foglamps are melting either my bumper or the paint on the bumper (they cant tell for sure until its removed and sanded down). i havent changed the bulbs or anything. the dealer is going to either repaint it or replace the whole bumper (in which case im going to get a 03.5 msp bumper and pay the difference) under warranty.

this is just a heads up for you to go feel the paint under and above the foglamps on your 03 msp and 02-03.5 protege5s. its hard to see just by looking, and if your car is dirty, even harder. its hard enough that the dealer normally takes pictures to send to the district serv rep but couldnt because the bumps wouldnt show up on the camera.

if they replace the WHOLE BUMPER you cannot get a '03.5 bumper' IT WILL LOOK THE SAME. you also need to get the extra LIP. if they are going to repaint it, might as well get the 03.5 LIP ANYWAYS.

ok you knew what i meant. and yes i know i need the lip, thats what i meant ill be paying extra for i figured i would just give them both msp part numbers so the poor little dumb dealership doesnt get confused. they dont even sell msps, so can you imagine if i told them i wanted a p5 bumper and msp lip. they already tried to tell me it didnt fit, but they wrote down the request to the service manager anyhow after i assured them i knew more about my car than they did.

if u get the lip, no fogs, they wont fit without cutting the lip...

He is saying the lip will only fit if you remove the fogs, but you already knew that. Some people on here have already done the swap so your good to go. I cant wait to see how it looks.

Damn straight. Infact, I just went and turned them on while Im at work. j/k I WANT THAT LIP (It would so compliment the wheels I have). I'll keep my fingers crossed for damage!

Matthew, you're positive those are stock lamps? mine don't even got that hot that you can't touch them? i'm not sure a what temp that bumper starts to melt, but it's got to be @ much higher than the heat output of the stock lamps?? good luck!

one of my friends told me to just turn off my fogs and not use them as much. i say, **** that, i paid 15-16k for a car, i dont want the s*** melting cause i turned on the fogs.

well there is a diference in getting an MSP bumper as oppposed to a p5 one or a different yr p5 bumper, because then you can get one without those ugly ass side markers. yay.

Wouldn't be any difference because it is the same bumper. If you are trying to lose the markers, get an MSP or MP3 bumper.

anyways, update:

dealer just called, no problem theyll fix it under warranty. however, they said because theyre not a MSP dealer they wont do the msp bumper. oh well, at least im getting a new paint job to fix some of the chips in it, and prolly can have them fix that little tab thing that broke.

Make sure they throw a couple of extra coats of clearcoat on there.
