I have been fairly conservative in this first week, but I have also wound it out to around 5,500 rpms a few times, but not too often. Many have told me not to baby it too much. I love that 3rd gear pull!

Cheers!

Read the owner's manual, page 4-6. "No special break in procedure is needed" or something like that. With that, I'm still being somewhat conservative, keeping the revs down the first 600 miles. But I have hit 5500 a few times in 2nd. No full throttle starts or anything near hard 1st gear accel. Also, I baby it until the temp comes up to fully warm and I baby it the last few minutes before shutting it down.

I plan to change the oil & filter after the first 600 miles to Havoline 5-30w rated to ILSAC-3 standards. Then, after the first 5,000 miles I'll switch to full synthetic, either Mobil 1 or Redline. I'll also drain the gearbox and go with Redline MT90 or MTL full synthetic.

MSP Pro..
you're planning on doing yourf irst oil change at 600 miles?
isn't that very early? Who said to get an oil change that that low Km's? Would it be just a waste of money or is this the best way to go in terms of first oil change?

Lots of people do an oil change very early into the engine's life (500-1000 miles). The reason behind is to get all the oil shavings, casting left-overs, etc. out of the oil/oil filter that were left behind during the manufacturing process. I think this was more critical in years gone by when manufacturing processes weren't as good as they are now, but its cheap insurance nevertheless.

I might go ahead and change filter and oil to Mobil 1 at around 1,500 miles.

Cheers!

Grimace: 'speaking of Team Associated, our season gears up on March 2nd. I still need to upgrade my charger, and ESC, and get some 3000 or 3300 racing cells to be competitive. I have already upgraded my servo, and radio system (KO Propo). Here are a few photos of my TC3....

We changed the oil in our mp3 at 600 KM's for the reasons noted above....is cheap insurance to rid the engine of shavings and break in materials....then changed again at 3000km....went to the dealer at 5000kms...just make sure they use a factory filter so the dealer will not know the difference.

ps...I plan to do the same when my MSP arrives...at this rate it will be spring

Does anyone know if our warrenty covers oil change for x amount of years? is there such a thing?

Is there anything different with the Mazdaspeed Protege's Oil filter than with regular Protege's?

L.E. - not sure if I understand your first question. Do you mean will Mazda pay for the oil changes??

I was going to ask that very question. Most of the european car companies will cover scheduled maint to xx,xxx miles, but after looking at the website, it appears mazda does not, correct?

As such, we're pretty much free to change our own oil as long as we save receipts, right?

Yeah, i wasn't sure if Mazda would cover the cost of the first year's oil change or not? I really doubt it though. Although Oil changes don't cost much, i think Mazda should give this service to bring back Mazda owners feel that they are still wanted after they signed the paper work on delivery day.

So....
Is there differences with the Mazdaspeed Protege's Oil filter than with regular Protege's? Or are they the same?

How old are you? 17?

Mazda will change your oil every 2200 KMs for the life of the car, as long as it is still in Canada. They will also adopt you a pet rabbit from the SPCA, style your hair with a bullwip and last but not least lube your member untill you need new glasses.:wtf:
