So......a lil bad news

:
2002 P5 Wag
My mom passed away last wednesday. All said and done - she's in a better place. done.

I had to drive (...fast) from Houston, TX all the way to OKC, OK - in a rather fast amount of time. So - I did. got there in just about 6 hours. After all was finished up there - I drove home Sunday (....slow). Here's where the news goes bad:

I got home. parked the P5 overnight. Next morning - went out to pay a bill - and it wouldn't turn over. Battery is just fine. Starter is just fine..... oh no - engine is seized. I've had confirmation from a mech buddy of mine - it's frozen.

Now - I face a dilemma. How much is "too much" to have the engine replaced? It's too far gone, as there's piston damage, cylinder wall damage, main bearing damage, and crank damage.....I really trashed it apparently. Oil was topped off.....it just couldn't deal with that kind of abuse I guess. It did it's job of getting me up there to spend my mom's last 12 minutes alive by her side....so this is a price I'm willing to pay...and I'd do it again if I had to.

I've been quoted 1099 for the engine and 1500 for installation. That's complete replacement....no if's and's or but's. EVERYthing that's necesary to replace it - and a 90 day warranty to boot. That sound like a good deal to ya'll?

Sorry for your loss, man. Glad to hear you made it there to see her though.

As for the engine... what condition is the engine your buying? New? If your willing you could probably find a local member to do it for cheaper, and you could learn some stuff along the way. That said its probably pretty turbulent in your life right now so I could see why it would be nice to just have someone deal with it.

If you wanted to get a used/rebuilt engine however I'm sure it would be much cheaper than $1100.

sorrry to hear about that..My condolences goes out to u and ur family...

as for the price for the engine sounds like a decent pricing...have u tried going to other places to check out there prices?

I've tried other spots, and there is 1 cheaper, but their operation seems a lil "grungey".

This place is like a lab. Everything's clean and I feel good about it.

Just wanted to know some opinions.

Sorry for your loss man, Last year my engine went caput and I just got the whole thing rebuilt... new everything, basically i ended up with a 0 mile engine, for all the parts and labor I paid roughly 1400, but that included a few things on the transmission as well

sorry to hear about that both your mom and your car,
i seized my engine about a year ago and i picked up a 02 es 2.0 engine for 900 with 70k on it and took it to the mechanic i ended up paying about 2k for everything but i also had some other work done as well that took longer for labor and parts ex. motor mounts and had my struts and springs put on with new endlinks and other misc. parts

anyone with a P5 (FS-DE) motor for sale? I'm not talking trash either....the one that I could get for 1099, is a Japan export. Car had 24k miles on it, and per their emissions laws - they replaced the engine.

sorry - I forgot to thank ya'll for the well wishes.

It's tough on a family - and when your car takes a crap on you just after it happens......it seems all the cards are stacked against you at that moment in time.

Today was a better day though- I got a call from a buddy that found a shop willing to do it for 1400. That's a 799 (rebuilt) engine and installation. THAT sounds more like a feasible reason to put the money toward the P5.

hi sorry about your loss. if you where here in Miami FL you could pick up a Japanese spec fs for $535.00 tax included with a 6 month written guaranty and installation for $450.00 i just ****** my motor my self and am buying on from a place called japauto. maybe you could call them and check about shipping.there number is 305-621-6648 good luck

even with the engine fiasco - I'm still seeing hints of what I'd really want to do to it....

- BOOOOST!
- drop her a good bit
- wheels and tires (I saw some 17x7 MB Weapons on a P5 in the wheels thread.....o . m . g!

Thanks again for the kind words. Good to see there's still people out there that can still act human.
