snow under the hood

2011 mazda 3 hatchback
I got in my 2011 Mazda 3 hatchback last night, turned on the defroster, and snow blew inside my cabin. How could that happen, I thought? I checked under the hood and all four sides had snow underneath the hood. Where is all this snow coming from? I called the dealer mechanic, and he said the snow is coming throught he hood vents (?), nothing to worry about. Could that be true? I always thought any form of liquid on or near an engine could spell trouble. And I sure dont; want snow blowing inside my car! Help!

video? i would love to see this lol but for real thats not good luck man.. did it snow a lot the night before? you sure someone didnt just jump in your car and pack snow in the vents lol? im guessing your parked outside? only way i could think that to happen is if your car is in a snow drift area like a place the light powered snow blows a lot..

First off, welcome to the forum. Be sure and check out the Ohio threads, great group of people, lots of events going on. Now on to your question. Snow surrounding the engine is not good. Given the amount of plastic crap under my 06 I would have to think it nearly impossible. Unless you did some drift blasting, in that case you were asking for it. But only an idiot would do that in a new car, right? I would take it in and have them check to be sure all of the under body and wheel well plastic shrouding is in place and explain just what you have going on. Some snow blowing through the vents is fairly common on a cold start up, so no worries there

Just to chime in and clarify something
Liquid (on or near the engine) is not always a bad thing. When done PROPERLY steam cleaning (some even do power washing) the engine bay to clean it will not cause trouble. Again done PROPERLY.
And that puts the vapor and droplets on and around the engine, bay walls, and other components. Now, obviously the proper precautions are taken (cover all electrical components, battery, intake, etc.) but it can and is often safely done.
I know this is a couple months old but I just wanted to make sure that was cleared up to any that may read this thread.
