Well I drove an hour and a half to go to the track yesterday. I wasn't expecting much since it was my first time at the track, but I was still very dissappointed. Long story short I had a boost leak from the intercooler piping to the bpv. I had epoxied it and it was holding up but it cracked on the way to the track.
Anyways the track conditions were: 92-95 degrees 60-70% humidity (not a good combination anyways)
I had a full tank of gas which didn't help (I filled up the day before not knowing I was going to the track.)

The 3 runs (in order) I got in were:
16.2 (with my brother in the car, I was holding about 5.5-6 psi)
16.8 and
17.0

I could only hold about 4-6 psi in the last two runs.
All my 60 foots sucked, 2.52-2.67 (I got traction but was letting the clutch out too fast and it was just bogging down after the tires chirped)

I did beat a totally riced out Altima, so that was kinda nice.

After the 3rd run the intake piping totally blew off, wasnt even connected anymore. I did my best to "seal" it up with duct tape. I had to drive home without getting in boost, which is hard when you're trying to merge on to the interstate.

Oh well... at least when I do get in the 14's (hopefully by the end of summer) I would have already dropped 3 seconds from stock times lol.

dont worry my first run i got a 17.7 , i missed 2nd and my second run i got 16.7...we just need some more pratice

I can launch decently on the street, but there's so much more grip on the track (that I wasnt expecting) I guess I could've launched a little higher. What's the typical launch range for a stock msp? i was around 2500 rpms and let the clutch out too fast, i should've feathered it a little more

damn... should have just rolled off the line then gone.. you would have prolly gotten better numbers than that....

my first time EVER to the track I ran a 15.5.... in houston... 10000000% humidity.... 2 hour drive....:shrugs:

rev to about 4k and make sure to double clutch when shifting.

honestly.......DRIVER! not meaning in a disrespectful way, but i had to practince for 6 months to hit 13's on street tires. i really believe ''it's all about the driver''. you had a boost leak so thats why you got those times. patch it up and roll back to the track and spank some ASS!(eekdance) lol

Double clutching??? been watching too many movies. Double clutching is when you rev match downshifting to ease the syncros.

thats how i was when i first went i...my first time to the track had my friend in the front seat and i had a bad launch ran a 17.1 but then i ran again and got a 16.5 @83 which isnt bad for a little modified mp3

hah, too many movies! screw TFATF....it does the same exact thing when you upshift; provides an easy transition between gears.

maybe i am just using a "hyped" term. i learned on my soon to be father-in -law's '89 jeep comanche. you couldn't get into second gear w/o double clutching. he is 74 and been going it since he started driving.

what i am talking about it after depressing the clutch, the shifter gets moved into neutral. in neutral, let off the clutch and re-depress it and then get into the next gear.

i am not talking about i large amount of time either, probably hundredths of seconds between shifts/gears.

Double clutching isn't even close to necessary on new cars with functional clutches and synchros. It will only slow you down, by a lot.

16.2-17.0 is about the average I have been seeing for first time outers at the valley. Yeah and double clutching is a stupid idea for drag racing. It takes twice the time of regular shifting plus your engaging and disengaging the clutch twice so in theory you will wear those components out twice as fast.

You don't need to double clutch anymore with syncros. They had to do it before because the transmissions didnt have syncro's back then. SO stop with the 2f2f crap hahaha.

Hey, anybody know if you can speed shift (no clutch) in our cars. I hear we have 2 synchros in 2nd. I would imagine that we can't and would grind gears but I can't try it on my baby. I would feel physical pain if I heard my gears grinding.

You've gone all this time without grinding second? That was like the first thing I did when I got my car. But I switched tranny fluid and haven't grinded since then.
