Slick 50 Products - Best or is there Better?

Hey there,

I commute 120 miles each workday (it sucks my gas) between York and Baltimore. I'm seeking to take better care of my car and do whatever I can outside of the car shop. I've been curious about the Slick 50 Products. Are they really great, or is there better that I can teat my red baby to without busting my wallet wide open? What have your experences been and what would you advise?

Many thanks,
Erin

Stay away from Slick 50 products. A bottle of injector cleaner at each oil change and a light foot will help with the mileage.

Slick 50 never has been proven to do a thing. A Good synthetic oil, change fuel filter once a year, and every so often I use Lucas fuel injector cleaner. With the synthetic oil I wouldn't change the oil before 5k miles, it can last a very long time even beyond 5k miles, I just do it to be safe. On my daily driver 02 Z28/ET drag race car and my Mazda 3 I use Mobile 1 oil. Royal Purple, redline and Amsoil are all great synthetics, but Mobile 1 I can get at wallmart and they do the synthetic oil with a filter change for $28. Almost cheaper than you can buy just the filter and oil itself for. All oil additives suck, even the Lucas stuff, at higher rpms they tend to foam up which can cause premature wear. I do use seafoam to clean out the top of my pistons on my Z28(I run a half bottle through my throttle body intake through the pcv line) and sometimes add a little to the oil just before a oil change to clean up the engine. Also make sure you check air pressure in the tires, it can really mess with gas mileage if they are low.

Like the previous stament use syn. oil. Seafoam i have heard nothing but good things about. I use Z-max and I tink that it works great I usually get 30+mpg and my wife gets about 35mpg cause she doesnt drive the hell out of the car. The car just seems to run that much smoother when I use Z-max. Other than properly inflating the tires and changing the spark plugs. that is about it.

I wouldn't recommend any additives really, although I used to use Royal Purple fuel system cleaner which gave a bit of life to my dying fuel injectors in my car. The really strong ones are hard on rubber seals. I say just run the car with premium gas for a few tankfuls, keep the car in good tune, and what I like to do sometimes when motor oil goes on sale is change the oil, run it for a week, and then change it again a week later and put in new oil. This helps dilute whatever old stuff is left with the new stuff, and you'd be surprised how the oil changes in one week. Have fun.

^i agree except for the 'run few tanks of high test'. All brand name gas has detergent.

really.
