From today's speech about spying on Americans with no warrant:
G.W.Bush said:
"The American people expect me to do everything in my power under our laws and Constitution to protect them and their civil liberties," Bush said. "And that is exactly what I will continue to do, so long as I'm the president of the United States."
So in other words, he had to violate your civil liberties in order to protect them.

he violated the privacy of people with known links to al Qaeda to protect me, I am proud he did so and that is exactly why I voted for him twice

This would be great if I thought that they'd stop there, but this administration has proven that they are not above using their power for petty personal gain.

Why, In The Name Of God, Did You Create Another Stupid Political bulls*** Thread?
You're right, just keep playing with your speedy, shiny toys. I admit, it's a happy fascist state we live in and I am pretty much powerless to stop the tide of history. Being born with the disposition I have, I'm not likely to be taken seriously, but I just thought I'd spead the bad news.

It's just the fact that many of the folks here are really getting tired of political discussion. Yes, things have been better in the political world. Yes, things have been worse in the political world. But the constant barage of political oriented posts tend to upset folks and insite flamewars more than anything else. Posting political facts and quotes that you oppose within these forums won't make anything any better.

If your REALLY want to discuss politics, I highly suggest you visit www.bluelight.nu ,namely the "Current Events and Politics" forum.

In addition, if you really want to contribute to this board, post something that is actually worth a crap instead of just starting s***. mmmkay?

Informing people that their own Government is spying on them is not worth a crap? I post things like this here because I want to spread the word to people who normaly don't think about things like this. People should be upset. I think the fact that the disscussions that I start get so much play means that it is what people want to talk about in the Off Topic section. If it's not something you want to discuss, don't click.
And for you Mini, I'll end with a quote from my most famous homie:
Ben Franklin said:
They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security

No offense intended, but are you doing anything pro-actively within your community and elsewhere? If not, this board is a poor place to start.

Yes, and I think this board is great for these discussions. Unlike many, I prefer not to just preach to the choir. If some people are insecure with the way they feel, and want to start a flame war, that's up to them. I try to keep it civil.

Unfortunately, you have really done nothing more than promote and quote the same propagnada that is stated on the nightly news and elsewhere.

Instead, try suggesting a course of action, provide a starting point that others might follow. Starting flamewars will do absolutly nothing but piss people off and bore them.

This is not propaganda, it's a quote from Bushes speech. Here's a course of action, don't secretly spy on American citizens. Here's another, vote for a third party candidate next time. Here's another, spread the word, an educated populace is the best weapon against tyranny, oh wait, that's an armed populace. I'm in favor of both.

Good site, thanks. Ironically, the first member name I saw was "Skyline GTR".

The long and the short of this whole thing is this:

Now any law enfocement agency in the U.S. can perform a search, tap phones or essentially do what they want and site Bush as setting the bar.

Terrible, just terrible. This guy has walked all over our constitutional rights and I am sick of it.

condi rice was on meet the press this morning. she kept stating that ther eis constitutional and statutory auuthority for the taps. russert kept asking her to cite some of that authority, and she kept dodging.

i don't see why two courses of action weren't pursued that would have easily avoided the whole thing:
1. get court orders for the taps. court orders are quickly obtained, and liberally granted, esp if the cases were as exigent as the admin claims.
2. introduce special legislation to provide the authority needed to get the taps w/out a court order.

very simple. the fact that rice couldn't provide the legal authority when asked tells me that there isn't any. while she isn't the president's lawyer (which was her excuse for not knowing), it would have been simple to provide her w/ a list of relvant authority; it's not like russert's question was out of left field.

Everything so far seems fully Constitutional to me. The program has had periodic legal reviews by the Justice Department and congressional leaders have been briefed more than a dozen times on the program's activities. It's funny that the lefties and lib-jews at the New York Times are acting all surprised now, when they knew about it for years, and printed it at a good time to move the Iraqi elections off the front pages. Typical lib media stunts, all shock value and very little substance.

If the NYTimes are such militant lefties, why didn't they run this last year, before the election?
