Skunk2 Performance

I went to the skunk 2 website and they have an exhaust for the P5 is it a complete cat back or from the cat foward? If it is would it fit the mP3? thanks

anyone know if they are making any coilover suspension for the coming MS-P?
Would Mp3 aftermarket suspension parts fit?...
i'm sure they are pretty much the same parts, possibilty the same shocks/dampers/springs.

I don't think Mazda really made any changes to anything in suspension department from the MP3 to the Mazdaspeed Protege. The only real changes that were made were in the power, delivery and stereo departments.

Chassis and suspension were the strong points of the MP3, why change what works?

Yes, all suspension parts will be interchangable.

From what I've read and been told, the Mazdaspeed has the exact same suspension as the mp3. EXACT

In fact, I've tried getting Mazda to find out if the bushings were different on the Mazda speed, so we could put ones that actually work on the mp3 to fix the clunk...but they said their "pretty sure" it's the exact same setup.

Funny, I would think they would at least change the bushings given their problems. There is a new bushing being made for the mp3 according to Mazda Canada, I'd say that's the same one that's on the mazdaspeed 3. Just makes sense to me.

dont know how "better", but anything and everything can always be better.....btw, i dont really know of this "clunk" everyone seems to speak of, so if they didnt fix the bushings....its ok with me ;)

Better how? It was already the "best".

just wondering..

is this the reason why not many MP3 owners are NOT lowering their cars or putting on aftermarket suspension because the Mp3 set-up is already that "great"? :D

Suspension

The reason for not so many suspension mods ,i believe, is because all us owners are about poor.
Just my $.02 USD
Peace,

That's why I'm not touching mine. I haven't seen anything that will make a significant improvement.

I like being able to take a corner at a decent speed and not have to worry about being so stiff that any bump that might be mid corner totally up setting the balance of the car.

Case in point, I'm driving down the highway, coming up on an interchange. The ramp is an easy curve that is fun to take fast. Half-way through the curve it changes from concrete to asphalt and there is bump about one inch high for the switch. The asphalt patch is about fifteen feet long and another inch bump back to concrete.

Well, I see a slammed Nissan trying to go fast, and passes me on the highway. So I kick it up a notch and cacth up as we go onto the ramp. I fly through doing 90, no issue for the bump, car is steady and handles the curve like its nothing. Slammed Nissan takes a nice three inch jump on the front end when it went over the first bump. Needless to say, he went way slow after that.

He had Ground Control stickers all over the car.

Granted he probably has a really screwed up suspension, but still. Point is, the MP3 is a really nice balanced car that can take curves and isn't easily upset for how stiff it is.

The Mazdaspeed Protege is the same suspension, just more power, which will make it a really potent package.

Sure everything can be improved, but why mess with it when it is already really good? The price you pay to gain minor improvements just isn't worth it. Which is why Mazda didn't change it.

hey, i have a similar experience with the nissan story you were telling me about. I'm currently driving a honda civic with eiback pro-kit springs with stock shocks. I have experienced the 'jump' feeling when i turn and hit a bump. it's a very dangerous feeling since i once almost jumped over to the dotted lines with a car right beside me! :o
And yes, i was just like that nissan driver, i drive much slower after that 'jump'
Anyways, the reason i ask about the aftermarket suspension is that i think that there is alot of wheelgap and it would look great if it didn't have any at all. I know that he set-up of the car is 'great' as it is. But sometimes it looks soo much better when it's lowered! maybe 1.5" - 2.0" lower! :)

I know for a fact that full coilover set up would work wonders for the MP3. I'm talking fully adjustable dampers, camber (via camber plates)...the works. Granted you wouldn't get to experience the whole setup unless you were on the Buttonwillow :D, but yet still a full coilover setup will improve the handling dramatically. The only other thing I really want is a L.S.D.

I'm sure a full coil over set up would do wonders. But, to me, the bang for the buck right now just isn't worth it. And if I can't really use it unless I'm on the track and it makes day to day driving not as fun, they why do it.

But that is just MHO.

And yes, a LSD would be nice.
