Allright, lets try this again this year. Any of you MI people like to ski or snowboard ? Anyone interested in a ski/snowboard meet ? If we get some interest we can start looking at dates and locations and whatnot.

Hell yeah I'm game. I usually try to go about 15-20 times a year. Last year Mt. Brighton, Mt. Holly, and Alpine Valley were the places I went.

Is it possible to rent stuff? If so Im might be able to do something.

Of course. Check out www.skimichigan.com and then use the links to find out what the rental rates are at the nearby places. It usually runs $50-$60 for rental equipment and all day lift ticket on the weekends, but weekdays you can sometimes snag 5-10 bucks off.

how far from Chicago? I may be able to swing out that way this season if you guys get a decent sized meet or somethin

If I remember correctly, about 4 hrs. 5 if you have bad weather or drive slow.

I usually head out to Brighton, Pine Knob, or Holly once a week anyways, so I'm always down for a meet. Just hope you guys can keep up with me. ;)

Well, I have been skiing for 18 years, had my PSIA Level I professional instructor's certification when I was 16, have skiied with members of the Jackson Hole Air Force, and beat a member of the US Freestyle Ski Team in a local mogul competiton.

Cool maybe I can learn something

I've only been boarding for 3 years, so you wouldn't be that big of a n00b. It does take a lot of patience and practice, but its so worth it the first time you go down the hill.

Allright, we ARE getting some interest !!!. Hey Joker, what are you going to do, ski or snowboard ? Have you done either before ? I had a buddy tell me that he thought it was harder to learn to ski than it was to snowboard....... I have never skiied so I really can't say. But if you have never tried snowboarding you should give it a shot. It's a blast once you figure it out. I don't know what anybody's plans are over the holidays but, I am off from the 23rd til after the first of the year. It would be great to try to do something then. Any thoughts ?

Yes, it is a proven fact that it is easier to learn how to snowboard than how to ski. It has to do with the way your brain works and coordinates movements. It's just more natural for us to slide sideways than forwards. Think back to when you were a little kid on the playground in the winter. When you would run and slide across ice, you just instictively turn sideways. As for the holidays, I'll probably be skiing somewhere up the the UP (Brule, Mt. Ripley, or Bohemia).

I'm on holiday break from school from the 23rd of Dec till Jan 9. I'll be working between then, but I should have time to go about 4 or 5 times.
