Silly question.

This may be a silly question, but what exactly is a ricer? What does it mean to say a car is "riced out"? I read it all the time on the forum and I am curious.

It's not a set definition, but usually the stereotype can include:
-civics
-big wings
-dropped to hell
-stickers all over of products not used (or used)
-different color panels
-fart can exhausts -huge tips
-exorbitant body kits

there are threads somewhere that have some pics as example (search for "rice" or "civic" and you'll find plenty :D) and go more into depth about rice.

Oh yeah, and the term refers to an asian stereotype (they eat lots of rice) - the culture of customizing the hell out of their cars. A nicer term would be the "import scene".

Rice to me is when you have a sticker on your ride of a aftermarket product, but don't have the part. Sorta like me when I put "MAZDASPEED" decals on the rear window.
I'll save you guys the trouble of typing - (smash)

this is an old website but check it out:

Great web page. I laughed my ass off. I guess I do know what a ricer is, I just never knew what they were called. We have a lot of those goofballs here in Cincinnati. Thanks

Oh yeah, anything in the Fast and the Furious would be considered Rice, especially since the cars actually used in the movie would probably get their asses handed by most our turboed forum members:D

Did anyone else read in SCC where they tested the cars from F&F2? They all sucked, the most performance mods one had was a CAI. They even said that was the first RX-& they had driven that had handled that badly. (notcool) So I agree most if not all of our Turbo'd members could hand the F&F2 cars their asses...

KYREDP5...I agree. I love SCC, and I read that mag on all the "2F2F" cars, and they do suck. It makes me so angry that someone would destroy such beautiful, efficient machines, and make the whole thought of tuning an automobile something to laugh at.

Damn.

And IMO, "rice" is just expressed stupidity on the driver's behalf. For instance, I have some interior neon and the MS axle-back exhaust, MS clutch, as well as some Motegi wheels and stuff...none of which does much (if anything) for performance. I do it all because I enjoy the way it all looks and sounds, NOT because I want to intimidate other drivers or make my car look super-fast, 'cause we all know that our cars are not the fastest out there.

why would they spend money on auctually making them fast? It's just a movie. They buy crappy cars for cheap and make them look good, because they can make them look fast with technology.

Here in Atlanta I see a lot of rice. Not as many as in some areas but enough. The best rice stuff I have seen is when someone with a rusty Dodge Avenger pimps out his car with neon lights and wide wheels. The best rice thing I have seen was on a early 90's CRX. Some dumbass actually had built wooden ground effects, unpainted, and was driving 70 mph down the freeway with this stuff hanging off his car. I was laughing too hard to be scared for the idiot.

silly rabbit...tricks are for kids.....(stupid)(outie)
I think any car with unbalanced exterior mods are considered as rice

This is the best explanation. It's like when you see a Saturn with a giant rear wing, yet they have the stock steel wheels and hub caps. The term "ricer" is actually a double pun...rice, like Asian people (and cars) eat rice and also like "racer". Racer...Ricer...get it? Ok, it's not that clever, but what pun is?
